Christie:

Damage not as bad as feared.

Extraordinary business losses (tourism). Not known whether shore will be open for business over Labor Day.

Billions of dollars of property and business losses.

Opening roads down south at 1 PM.

Northern part of state - damage mostly due to downed trees and power lines. Inland flooding may cause evacuations.

Priority - get power back up so businesses can open.

Christie plans to be at the shore a lot next week to send the message that the shore is open for business and it’s safe to go there.

Casinos will reopen tomorrow morning - yippee!

There will be a major flooding problem on the Delaware River, but Ramico and Passaic Rivers will be very bad.

Christie catching flack for “alarmist” response.

Haven’t heard anything from that part yet, that’s about a half-hour drive from me. They just announced for my county that schools are closed tomorrow, my kids are thrilled of course.

Christie on way to helicopters to assess damage firsthand.

Checking in. Power is still out. We are ok here though. Haven’t been outside. VOC’s basement is flooded.

Ouch to the basement flood. Glad to know you are ok, albeit without electricity. Thanks for checking in with us. Hang in there!

Thanks!

I’ve been following the local news/weather sources, including UW, but was hoping for a ‘boots on the ground’ type of report from someone in the area.

I was concerned because she recently had CA surgery and is still kind of frail. After her power went out she took a nap before going out to recharge her phone from the car.

I just heard from her and she is fine!

Good news.

Having a car charger is an excellent addition to a preparedness stash. If you don’t have a generator, you can use the car engine.

breakingweather RT @henry_margusity: Many reports of tremendous winds across eastern PA into DE. I see winds gusting 35-50 mph across that area.

Power just came back on here. My house I don’t think the power is back on yet. We lost our flagpole and about 6 inches of water in the basement. Wind is still gusting. I’m thrilled the power is back on here at least.

the evidence is in...the media blew this event way way way out of proportion..I am reading now that the precautionary measures are costing cities and states exponentially more than the storm damage....

this ranks up there with OJ’s Bronco ride...the unmerited fixation and hype..and to see liberal and conservative media make it all about “them-them-them” for days was a bit much for us down here who get ignored (me Nashville flood last year for example)

and those of us down here who know about storms could see this was the case fairly early on...a mild storm moving into colder water and grazing or entering landmass...none of which builds monsters

You guys have worse winter gales than this was...far worse.

That was my point and I’m sticking to it.

It is not about my hurricane is worse than your’s. It was about what I said..the media..given where the storm was headed (where they live...Beltway and NYC types) decided to maximize exposure and politicians from Bloomberg and Christie all the way up to Obama decided to join in the hysteria. I believe that is a logical observation of the treatment of this storm and I am quite happy you guys did not have a cataclysmic event. Given your demographics, loss of life would have been high and the civil unrest..again...given your urban demographics would have dwarfed Katrina.

I wonder were Joe Bastardi is today?

btw...the media has overblown storm intensity here too...but not to this degree and with less political go along and eating up the news cycle 24/7 for 5 days out
