Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.

Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

RIvers will continue to rise even after the rain stops. This looks to be a major flooding event maybe on par with Ivan in 2004.

Sounds like the water is receding as well now according to reports. Glad to know the Big Apple will be up and running again soon and glad to know you are ok! It has been unnerving to watch the city that never sleeps so devoid of human activity.

Yes our french drain & pump ran all night but when the volumn of water and ground saturation hit a certain point the water still gets in. We are on a rolling hillside. By some miracle we have power this AM in western side of southern Lancaster county!!! Still raining and wind still blowing like one would expect in hurricane though the map on TV says we should be in the clear.

Caught a bit saying there’s another large feeder band of rain going to hit around Noon, so that could push the river over the old high flood marker. If so Philly’s subways may not recover for Monday rush-hour, and some bus routes will be impacted.

Only lost power for a few minutes last night, but been on tenderhooks since! Stay safe.

1015 report from Central NH (43.6N 71.2W) 72F 98% humidity, 29.39 falling, 1.47” rain since I fixed the rain gauge @0900, winds SW 6 with gusts to 10.

Checking in from St Mary’s County, MD....We still have power, cable (Metrocast) and internet (Verizon DSL) I know we’re among the lucky ones, see a lot of Facebook updates from friends who have suffered damage to houses/vehicles from downed tree limbs. Gonna get some coffee and start making phone calls to check on friends, see if they need any help.
