60 mph winds are nothing in NYC. We have blizzards practically every other year, endless nor’easters that wreck havoc and shake the buildings, so I am not concerned about my little apt. in NYC.
Now if the hurricane is as bad as the hysterical newscasters say, I suppose it’s the end of the world.
Did you NOT see the LOL, guess you can’t take a joke huh.
Do you can your tomatoes whole or do you make a sauce out of them and then can? Just wondering as this is my 1st year canning tomatoes.
The wind isn’t as big a problem as the rain and surge will be around NYC. Yeah, they may well get hit with borderline hurricane winds in some areas depending on the storm track, and there will be minor structural damage and broken windows and endless pictures of flapping street signs and ripped awnings.
But Irene will also push several feet of water up from Jamaica Bay and Long Island Sound and the Hudson and East Rivers into low-lying areas, in addition to a possible 8-12” of rain on top of a fairly wet summer. No, it’s not going to be the end-of-the-world scenario that the media is hyping. But you’re probably looking at widespread loss of power and disruption of transport due to bridges being closed and subways being knocked out or flooded, in a city of 5+ million people. They’re overreacting, because that’s the media and it’s what they do. But I seriously doubt it’s going to be pleasant or fun up there if Irene gets anywhere close to NYC, which it probably will.

Nice to know I got a refill on cartridges from my dad.
But I really doubt where we are we’d have any “looting”, much less real damage. Although I must admit I’m actually 50/50 about it. I’m just glad my nephew came home from Ocean City on his own recognizance before they made evac mandatory. (Sorry for the tangents...!)
Hey Nick, IT said he was going to make some margarita’s still haven’t seen mine, sigh. Guess I’ll just open that bottle of Merlot, I’ve been saving...
I do not camp..........
Other than that, we’re all set.
Maybe SS got on his butt telling Mr President we need get out here LOL!
I could imagine Aunt Esther smack Obama around

Storm feeder bands are an awfully way inland, looks like all the way up to Greenville.
my comment was not the plight of those in harms way
it was agreein to my response poster that the media is milkin this for every dime
Chris Janzing attacked Dubya an hour ago as feckless as compared to the asshat with his putter in his hand
I pray for those in this hurricane’s path but hold no quarter for dumbasses like you who assume
Styro cups are appropriate for coffee. Beer requires plastic Solo cups.
They are shutting down the subways so I doubt inner city hoodlums are waiting to invade. (Oddly enough, I've never heard of an inner-city hoodlum robbing Harry Winston's!) Now if the apocalypse DOES happen, looters will probably rob their own neighborhoods. That, sadly, now happens in every American city.
Got the windows boarded, paper everything, plenty of water and non-perishables? I hope you won’t need any of it since it looks like she is moving inland now, or rather won’t need much of it. Hope y’all don’t see any flooding.
a bag of fritos is an excellent survival aid too...the oil starts fires easily and one frito can be reused 4 times
Speaking of jokes, I’m surprised I haven’t seen this one yet.
What do you call a woman with one leg shorter than the other? Ilene.
What do you call an asian woman with one leg shorter than the other? Irene!
This is not about toppling buildings. Far more likely is that skyscraper windows will be blown out and city streets will be pelted with glass shards.
One thing you can do is get a vacuum sealer and cut up and seal some tomatoes till you have enough for a batch. They won't keep like canned tomatoes, but they will keep for a week or more better than just on the counter top.
Name-calling and hard heart, huh? Thanks. I was listening to you right up...until the end.
Is the media in overkill? Sure - they always do. It’s not just us Easterners.
Your statements did more than just talk about the media. You make it seem it’s all just a joke, we’re all just paranoid, and I don’t appreciate that. “..some rain and wind..” That wasn’t “assumed”.
I sat in my car for my lunch hour, as usual, to listen to my talk radio and there was bloomturd and the rest going on and on. Reporters kept asking the same damn questions (he got a little testy).
I was in a panic (I’m on Long Island), but after NYC’s press conference I started getting ticked off. It’s like they are trying to cause a panic on purpose!
I survived Hurricane Gloria in 85, here on the Island and that was a Cat 4.
By the time this thing reaches us, it will probably be a 1 or 2. I think we’ve have a few recent thunderstorms that were probably a 1 or 2, lol.
