Joe Wurzelbacher, better known as Joe the Plumber, is considering a run against U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur in 2012, according to Republican Party sources.
Jon Stainbrook, chairman of the Lucas County Republican Party, said there is "high-level interest in the national Republican Party" in a potential Wurzelbacher candidacy.
"We are encouraging Joe to run," Mr. Stainbrook said. "He hasn't made any official decision yet."
Chris Maloney, spokesman for the Ohio Republican Party, said a candidate like Mr. Wurzelbacher would have strong fund-raising capabilities thanks to national recognition he received during the 2008 presidential campaign, but added such star power would have to be weighed against the advantages of experience that someone like a state legislator could bring to the race.
Mr. Wurzelbacher wouldn't confirm or deny a congressional run. "I think it's a very interesting idea," he said Tuesday. "That's as much as I can say."
One GOP source put the chances of Mr. Wurzelbacher running against Miss Kaptur at "90 percent."
Miss Kaptur (D., Toledo) has represented Ohio's 9th congressional district since 1983. She won with 59 percent of the vote in 2010 and her district voted heavily in favor of President Obama in 2008, but congressional redistricting later this year could shake up the district's political demographics.

Would love to see that. It would be interesting to see what the district looks like after redistricting. Kaptur is strongest in the city of Toledo, and that city has been steadily losing population.
Stainbrook is a joke... He’s bent on destroying the Lucas county (Ohio) GOP from within at the behest of the publisher (John Robinson Block) of the local left wing rag, The Toledo Blade. That said, you might as well run a monkey as Joe the plumber...Kaptur will not lose. Unions still weild the power in the greater Toledo area...
Go JOE!
#1 Joe has been vetted (procto exam by the media)!
#2 Is a plumber and can identify sewage.
#3 Understands how the economy and small businesses work.
#4 Knows how to turn off a spigot.
#5 Not afraid to ask questions.
#6 Not afraid to get his hands dirty.
This is a good thing, we need more plain spoken ordinary people in Washington DC and in every state capital and city council across this country.
I hope he runs. There is nothing to lose and he’ll attract a lot of money from common folk even if the big ‘too cool for school’ guys in the party don’t support him. As for those who says he doesn’t have a chance I’d say at least his populist message will be there. I don’t understand why some don’t realize that win or lose having an active candidate campaigning on conservative values is a positive no matter what the district. Look at Wisconsin. If the GOP had gone soft that state would be solid blue. California is a good example of what happens when you don’t fight and allow your message to get lost and indistinct. We may lose many times but inch by inch we can win our country back. Don’t write off your fellow citizens.
Hello Joe! Glad to see a worker take on a Debt-o-crat!
NEVER compromise on your principles as that is the only defense we have against any politician ( read: politicians in “both” political parties ).
Remember, a politician is anyone whose word cannot be trusted : “ Read my lips, no new taxes. “ Yep, when those words were betrayed we got 8 loooooooong years of Zipper-Boy.
Then comes RINO McCain - - - .
That’s refreshing - to admit indecision. Probably why he was asking questions - to help make up his mind. Not everyone is a FReeper;)
I think you are right that if he has any shot it will be as a result of redistricting. Kaptur has been hard core, lock-step with the unions for a couple of decades. She is likely to carry anything that is not a barbell-shaped district incorporating the wealthier northern suburbs of Columbus.
I’ve seen no admission, although if there was one I’d share in the refreshment of enlightenment.
Read your own post:
You are the one who claimed Joe the Plumber did not know who he was going to vote for - three weeks prior to the election.
Was I wrong to trust you?
No go back to the day he went out to see Obama, he said he didn’t know who he was voting for. The point is, he should have known the differences long before then, and to herald him as some great conservative is akin to asking for another Scott Brown RINO
I have no idea when Joe the Plumber went to see Obama. He was just an inquisitive regular guy who took an opportunity to ask a very pointed question....and a good one.
He may very well have been coy when asked who he was voting for, and to avoid more questions for which he was not prepared - gave the vague response of being ‘undecided’.
He was an unknown plumber FGS!
You are absolutely right. Way to go JOE. Kaptur has been in the Congress too long.
It’s funny just how deluded the left is. On some other boards they try to take Joe the Plumber apart because he’s “not a real plumber”. And they claim that he was a “plant” to get Obama. Yeah, I’m sure that Joe moved into that neighborhood 15 years ago in the off chance that a presidential candidate might stroll by and he could ask a question. And how DARE he ask a “tough” question of Obama. Obviously racist. Every good person knows that you simply don’t ask liberal politicians about anything substantive.
Even more preposterous are FReepers who label any candidate as a RINO who deviates ever so slightly from their own stringent and unattainable requirements.
We should allow for a few imperfections in candidates who are courageous enough to run as Republicans and volunteer to absorb the slings and arrows of outrageous, leftist journ0lists. That’s enough vindication right there.
Toledo? Good luck. He’ll need it. It’s like a giant Ypsilanti.
“...#2 Is a plumber and can identify sewage....”
I’d say he pretty much correctly identified sewage on National TV the day he spoke with Hussein Odouchebag...
