Off-Duty (Arkansas State) Trooper Shoots, Kills Intruder (Picked the wrong house, meth-head!)

(Sherwood, AR) -- A burglar is dead after being shot while breaking into a home in Sherwood.

Sherwood Police say the man was confronted by an armed Arkansas State trooper who lived there and had been woken up by the sounds of the break-in.

It happened around 11:15 in a neighborhood east of Highway 107 and north of Kiehl Avenue.

It's not yet known if the trooper, who works the overnight shift, fired any other shots, or if the suspect had a weapon.

Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney Larry Jegley was on the scene shortly after the shooting. It is protocol for Jegley's office to investigate the scene of an officer involved shooting, and he will make the call on whether or not the shooting was justified.

"It's all a part of your training, so if it was self-defense, a life threatening situation, he did the right thing," said Lindsey Thomas, the trooper's next door neighbor.

Sherwood Police add they have not seen a spike in mid-morning break-ins in the area of Maelstrom Circle.

In the meantime, the trooper involved has been placed on leave, something that is standard procedure following a shooting.

So far, the names of the trooper and the burglary suspect who died have not been released

I tell my wife, when I’m not home and someone comes in our house (uninvited), just grab a gun and shoot him - do not ask what he’s doing or try to reason with him - Meth-heads are VERY dangerous folk.

The headline SHOULD be: “Dumbass picks wrong house to rob”

If the Leftist media was on the side of the victim you would have seen a headline similar to that.

Getting ready for the over-night shift, the trooper was probably just strapping on his gun. How fortunate.

When my daughter was 19 or so she got into an argument with a group of people she knew. Two of the guys decided to come to my house about midnight one night banging on the door looking for her. I was the only one home, hubby was working.
As soon as I heard the doorbell ring I grabbed my gun and headed for the door but didn’t say anything when I got there, just looked out the peephole to see who it was. I could hear them talking as they kept ringing the doorbell. Finally I heard one say....I’ll just kick in the damn door.
I very calmly said...go ahead theres a 38 pointed right at you.
Boy did they hightail it! lol

***I tell my wife, when I’m not home and someone comes in our house (uninvited), just grab a gun and shoot him ****

A friend of mine left home to work his midnight shift. Half way to work he remembered he had forgotten something and returned home.
As he opened the door he heard the sound of a revolver being cocked and yelled to his wife that it was him.

That is what saved his life.

I often read of a person shooting at a shadow in the hall only to find he has shot one of his kids by accident.

Remember the rule, identify your target before shooting.

"Remember the rule, identify your target before shooting."

Understand.
There are only three of us (me, wife, ten y.o. daughter) in a small ranch-style house - if someone is not one of those three, they will be dropped.

Which always reminds me: when I was a kid, I accidentally shot and killed a horse. I felt so damned bad, I went ahead and broke his leg!

At least they are waiting for the relatives to be informed. That's more than the current administration did when they released news of the Seals' helicopter being shot down.

Not to belabor the point but there are valid reasons for strangers to come to the door. Perhaps a few questions before you unload the gun the quick way might not be out of place.

I had a stranger driving by quite late knock on my door to tell me my car was issuing a good deal of smoke from the engine compartment. I got the fire out before the gasoline got involved.

Just saying...

My hubby was always scared to death of me. If he came in late at night from work he never ever just let himself in, he would either call first or ring the doorbell and wait for me. lol

I am awaiting the snot slinging mother of the deceased to come out and demand to know why this had to happen, her son was a “good boy”...
