Some New York politicians and religious leaders are criticizing Mayor Michael Bloomberg for not offering clergy members a role in the high-profile ceremonies marking 10 years since the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, The Wall Street Journal reported.
"This is America, and to have a memorial service where there's no prayer, this appears to be insanity to me," said Rudy Washington, a former deputy mayor under Rudolph Giuliani. "I feel like America has lost its way."
A spokewoman from Bloomberg's office told The Journal that the focus, as in past years, will be on the family members of the fallen. Rabbi Joseph Potasnik told the paper he understood the mayor's decision, saying, "I don't know how to make it possible for everyone to have a place at the table."

What a @&?$”!!!!!!!
This will be a huge political mistake.
God will be there, regardless. He won’t forget.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg is a Blooming Idiot.
The rabbi capitulated, right on cue......
Don’t worry, they’ll have a religious ceremony when they open the mosque at the World Trade Center site. /s

“I don’t know how to make it possible for everyone to have a place at the table.”
Get a big farking table, you moron.
Great article - thanks. To eliminate religion and Faith Leaders from this ceremony is beyond ridiculous on Mayor Bloomberg’s part. Why is he doing this? Does Bloomberg have business deals with Muslims and/or atheists that he is trying to cater to and not “offend”? Maybe his high dollar donors don’t want religious representation at the ceremony...?
What a terrible thing to say.
what about st. nicholas?
that was the greek orthodox church at ground zero that the port authority took with no compensation and refused any kind of rebuild.
Mychal F. Judge, OFM (born Robert Emmet Judge on May 11, 1933; died September 11, 2001) was a Roman Catholic priest of the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor, Chaplain of the Fire Department of New York, and the first recorded victim of the September 11, 2001 attacks.
This is just awful. Muslims cause this and WE cannot have OUR religion participate in these ceremonies? Come again?? The left has just gone totally crazy.
This mayor has been out of control for a long time. He’s a very bad man and should never have won the original election. Mark Green was to win it but after 9/11, the race was thrown to Bloomberg (thank you, Rudy. Not.) He’s an embarrassing representative of a great city. The guy can’t even pronounce the word “picture.”
Let me guess, the Mayor is going to have an Imam instead. This so called American, much less Republican, has not only been fighting for a victory mosque to go up upon sacred ground but he’s made it near impossible for a Greek Orthodox church that was destroyed on 911 to be rebuilt.
Perhaps someone should organize the crowd to say a LOUD prayer drowning out Bloomberg’s opening statement?
