Guest hosting for Chris Matthews on Tuesday, MSNBC's Chris Jansing derided Rick Perry, wondering if the Republican presidential candidate is "too far off even for the GOP?"
Jansing, who normally hosts supposedly straight news coverage for the cable network, attempted to generate controversy over statements Perry made on civil rights. A MSNBC graphic for the segment, mocked, "I have a scheme."
According to Jansing, Perry's problem answer came in "comparing" the civil rights to cutting corporate tax rates. Here's Perry's full answer:
RICK PERRY: America's gone a long way from the standpoint of civil rights and thank God we have. I mean, we've gone from a country that's made great strides in issues of civil rights. I think we all can be proud of that.
And as we go forward, America needs to be about freedom. It needs to be about freedom from over taxation, freedom from over-litigation, freedom from over-regulation. And Americans, regardless of social and economic background is, they need to know that they can come to America and you got a chance to have any dream come true, because the economic climate is going to be improved
An indignant Jansing huffed, "So, does Perry really believe African-Americans' struggle for civil rights is comparable to the GOP's fight for lower taxes?"
Talking to Alex Wagner of the liberal Huffington Post, she slammed, "Is this ignorance?...Is this insensitivity?"
Piling on Republican, Jansing marveled, "I mean, when you look at this series of quotes from [Perry's] book, some of which he's backing off on, you have to sit back as a political analyst and say, is he too far off even for the GOP?"
Jansing is supposed to be a straight forward journalist. But, apparently, guest-hosting Hardball turns MSNBC's reporters into just another liberal anchor.

Parents Rights. The Department of State Health Services will, in order to protect the right of parents to be the final authority on their childrens health care, modify the current process in order to allow parents to submit a request for a conscientious objection affidavit form via the Internet while maintaining privacy safeguards under current law.
This administration is going to attempt whatever necessary to remain in power. Race. Intimidation. Media attacks. Division divide and f**king conquer. You notice how divisive the Republican primary campaigns have already started to become? You think thats all occurring on its own? H*ll no. Tens of millions of dollars are already being spent getting conservatives, Republicans, Independents, whatever get them to attack each other. Get them frustrated and lower their desire to vote for the eventual nominee. You know, Republicans used to be the party that would unite behind the nominee when they were chosen it frustrated the h*ll out of us Democrats who were always b*tching over this or that right up until the election. Thats not the case anymore, and your Republicans are much weaker because of it. Ill say this, if Republicans dont get their sh*t together and vote for whoever is the nominee and I mean WHOEVER is the nominee, then it will be another four years of Barack Obama running this country into the f**king dirt and thats what we deserve. If we are too stupid as a country to fix this mess
then so be it. Its over. The America we know, the America we knew its over. Done. And we will only have ourselves to blame.
I am quite familiar with him as I live not too far from Texas and do quite a bit of business and shopping there. He’s far from perfect like anyone else but he has governed his state well. In fact his accepting all those Katrina peeps has helped Louisiana to finally have more registered R’s instead of D’s for the first time since Reconstruction. His leadership has been beneficial in more ways than one. :-)
Palin is known and not all of it is positive. It’s called Palin fatigue.
There is a big difference between illegal and legal immigration.
It's every Perry thread.
I check out Palin threads and besides one that I purposely went to to show them what it is like, they are generally left to enjoy the post. The only thing they have to deal with is "Palin isn't running" or "I don't think she will run" comments.
“And Americans, regardless of social and economic background is, they need to know that they can come to America and you got a chance to have any dream come true, because the economic climate is going to be improved.”
Yes, there is a big difference between illegal and legal immigration. However, this statement by the Governor is true and has nothing to do with illegal immigration.
By the way, regarding your tag line, there is a difference between a path to citizenship and amnesty. In fact, Governor Palin has come out very clearly on the path to citizenship:
http://www.issues2000.org/2012/Sarah_Palin_Immigration.htm
Supports a path to citizenship, but no amnesty for illegals
Q: Should undocumented immigrants all should be deported?
A: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant—there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants—not only economically is that just an impossibility but that’s not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue.
Q: Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 million undocumented immigrants?
A: No, I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. We have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.
Q: So you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?
A: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.
Path to citizenship is a form of amnesty, hence the term scamnesty.
Did you perhaps confuse me with a Palin supporter?
I can’t help but wonder if Alaska had been over run with illegals and going bankrupt because of them if she might have sung a different tune.
Destroyed?
Discussing conservatives on RINO threads
is a good thing, is it not?
Conservatism will improve RINO threads, normy.
Wishful thinking, chump.
I don't know about that. I did an analysis of all of the Obama v Palin polls listed on the RCP webstite for the past three years. In 2009, Sarah averaged 12.5 points behind Obama. In 2010, when she was actively campaigning for other candidates, she improved slightly, to 10.8 points behind Obama. However, in 2011 so far, she has averaged 17.5 points behind Obama. That is an average for over 30 polls just this year, so it is not just 1 or 2 outliers. So it appears that she is losing ground over her support from last year. Now, that can change. But I think her supporters are going to make that more difficult by attacking and alienating the supporters of other candidates.
As of today, is Palin a candidate? You only have two choices. Yes or no. Let the truth prevail. To my knowledge she hasn’t, but I haven’t had the tv on today.
You’re wasting your time, that one makes Obama look smart. Outta here.
YOU giving me two choices? LOL!! Your mission is not mine. Your two choices are to take a chill pill or keep appearing foolish trying to make a non truth into a truth. You have a decision to make - get going!
That really sucks that Palin people are actually doing this in a Republican Primary.
I wouldn't even do that to Newt or Romney as they are closer allies to us than the Muslim sitting in the WH.
If Palin has any class she will address this type of antics. It mirrors Ron Paul tactics.
