VINEYARD HAVEN, Massachusetts (Reuters) - President Barack Obama has taken heat for taking a vacation when the U.S. economy is struggling, but aides are striving to make clear he is not neglecting the country's finances during his break.
On Monday, Obama met with a top economic adviser and spoke to investor Warren Buffett and Ford Motor Co. chief executive Alan Mulally about the economy, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said.
Earnest also announced that Obama will travel to Detroit in two weeks to discuss the economy on the U.S. Labor Day holiday on September 5, setting up a major address on jobs he is to deliver later in the month.
The date of that address has not been set.
Obama will spend part of the day with workers and then make remarks to the Metro Detroit Central Labor Council, Earnest said.
With Buffett, the chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway, Obama discussed the overall U.S. economic outlook and "reaction to the headwinds we've experienced over the last couple of months," Earnest told reporters in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, where Obama is staying with his family.

Some critics from the rival Republican party had questioned whether it was appropriate for Obama to take his annual break given the country's economic problems, including an unemployment rate stuck above 9 percent and weak growth in the first half of 2011.
TRYING TO JUMP-START THE ECONOMY
Although his schedule includes family outings, golf games and receptions, Obama is expected to spend much of his nine days on the resort island working on a program meant to jump-start the economy and find budget savings that surpass the $1.5 trillion goal of a new congressional deficit-cutting committee.

Obama’s vacations have not been good PR lately. This looks like he’s trying to put lipstick on a pig. Make it sound like his vacation is more productive than his time on the job at the White House.
He and OJ are looking for the solution on the golf course.
Guaranteed he has no fresh ideas. He’ll rehash the same old tax the rich and stop American oil production crap that is his legacy.
The Captain of the Titanic had wanted to retire before accepting the gig on the inaugural sailing.
O will be lucky to be offered a 2nd chance to sink this ship of state.

Obama goes to a primary school to talk to the kids to get a little PR. After his talk he offers question time. One little boy puts up his hand and Obama asks him his name.
“Stanley,” responds the little boy.
“And what is your question, Stanley?”
“I have 4 questions:
First, why did the USA Bomb Libya without the support of the Congress?
Second, why are you President when John McCain got more votes?
Third, whatever happened to all of the jobs you were going to create?”
Fourth, why don’t you enforce our current immigration laws?
Just then, the bell rings for recess. Obama informs the kiddies that they will continue after recess.
When they resume Obama says, “OK, where were we? Oh, that’s right: question time. Who has a question?”

When is he working? What between golf, swimming, BBQs, shopping........

He’s like a kid cramming for an exam. He’s had over 2 yrs to focus on jobs and the “product” he’ll likely produce will be plagerized from the same old plans.
Actually, being on vacation is the best thing he can do for the economy. Liberty is never more in peril than when congress is in session. And that applies triple to Obama. The whole lot of them should take a vacation until after the 2012 elections.
He never even took Economics 101 in college and knows nothing about economics.
They should give him a Nobel Prize in Economics first - for what he will surely do...
Oh wait, the last time they tried that, it did not go well... they gave him the Nobel Peace Prize and two weeks later he sent some 30,000 troops to Afghanistan - nearly double what JFK sent into Vietnam...

Suggestion to the aides ---> take zer0 to Libya (Libya is missing an idiot), and leave America's money alone. The idiot zer0 has done enough damage. If zer0 refuses to go to Libya, do the right thing aids, and tell zer0 his status and his calling is to go home to Kenya. Kenya is missing their idiot too.
How’s he going to read all those really great books he bought if he’s WORKING on his vacation?
