NLRB will probably tell them they don’t have the right to close the plant.
Call it an extended strike.
Geniuses.
Economic reality 101. Unions destroy every business and/or industry that they get involved with. Join a union if you want, but the day the business gets unionized if the day they start to die.
On February 26, 2008, approximately 3600 AAM employees went on strike for three months to protest a proposed wage and benefit cut. Strike ended reducing workers’ hourly wage from $28 to $14 and cut benefits.
After 3 years the company wants more, workers already gave back 50%.
Kind of sad.
In the “old days” that was “Chevrolet Gear and Axle” and had a couple thousand workers....
“...it will close its Detroit plant after workers there failed to agree to wage cuts. “
Sounds like they agreed to a pretty drastic wage cut when they failed to agree to wage cuts.
And guess what, guys? Your union pension has already been spent to elect Democrats to office.
Union yes! A-meric-aaaaa works best when we say...
Union yes!
Those union morons will be standing in the unemployment line bitching because the factory closed down an sent THEIR jobs overseas, believing all the time that the company could continue to pay their outrageous benefits.
maybe they can get a job in Indiana.
Ha! Looks like the Unions WON that fight!
“Give us what we demand or we’ll shut you down!”

Unions voting themselves out of a job as usual. We need to get rid of Unions then maybe our mfg jobs will come back to the US. Unions were ok 50/60 years ago but no more. Coming from a Flint, Mich. union family unions are no longer needed or wanted. Just a bunch of thugs living the high life on union dues.
Once again, the unions scammed themselves out of a job. Business aren't created to give away every dollar they make to union employees. Simple hourly wages should be enough.
Gone to MEXICO...!!!
All their products will be sabotaged now.
I grew up in a family business and understand the value of a buck. I understand how unions are a hardship to a business but ALSO understand sometimes a union is a necessary evil due to the employers tactics. Most of the time a union is its own worst enemy.
I feel a companys most valuable asset is its employees and mutual respect should rule the day. If a company isnt performing well, the owner should come out on the floor and explain to its employees, open up the books and ask for help. And when times are good, pat them on the back and share in its rewards. Its a simple matter of mutual respect.
But greed seems to overcome. An 8% return isnt good enough, they want more.
The most valuable asset is your dedicated employee. An asset is NOT the product youre trying to sell for less sitting on a store shelf.
A human has true worth, its the main reason I vote republican due to Right To Life
Good thread. Union employees out of jobs should pool all of their assets and open up their own businesses in their areas of expertise. Would they unionize?
I’ve always considered myself an independent contractor. I never liked being in the parasitic, sloth-protecting unions when I worked in those union jobs. If a company was treating me poorly or its management was giving me a hard time, I would leave and take my talent and work ethic somewhere else. It would be their loss, not mine. I’ve always tried to set a very high standard (much higher than union and most non-union companies) for all aspects of my employment in any job. When I work, I work. I’m setting the standard.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of leaches. If you get a Union job, be aware that sooner or later you will be on strike or unemployed because of the Union and their ridiculous demands that bankrupted the employer.
Thought certainly nobody wants to take a 1/3 cut in total compensation, I'm sure even at 1/3 cut it is far better than that service sector job paying $7.50 an hour they might find .
