On February 26, 2008, approximately 3600 AAM employees went on strike for three months to protest a proposed wage and benefit cut. Strike ended reducing workers’ hourly wage from $28 to $14 and cut benefits.

After 3 years the company wants more, workers already gave back 50%.

Are you saying a company can’t keep trying to negotiate wages for new contract renewals. Nobody makes them work there. If it is too low then leave.

This sounds like someone trying to make sure all employees still have a job rather than laying folks off.

And, apparently, it wasn't enough.

If the plant was making money, American Axle wouldn't be closing the plant.

“After 3 years the company wants more, workers already gave back 50%.”

Added costs of Democrat Gov Regulations.
Added costs of Obamacare.
Etc....

When other costs rise, wages are the only variable cost left to go after.

Yeah, well now they've "given back" 100%.

On February of 2008 reality set in.

They got to keep their jobs and continue to put food on the table.

Could have had a plant closing then.

Management protected their jobs for another 4 years.

That is 96 paychecks that they wouldn’t have had.

That is 4 years more than if the union had not agreed to the pay cut.

gears are about the easiest machined part there is in the world to make, especially on CMC machines...

if i had to guess, i'd say very few of them are actually machinists and most of them are merely attendants feeding the CMC machines

and that is NOT worth $14.00 plus benefits

No one holds a gun to make them work there. That is a lot more than a lot of people make. They either want a job or no job at all.

If they can command more in the market place they are free to go work elsewhere.

Would love to know if the CEO and managers took a 50 percent cut, you know to lead by example.

It’s easy to sit behind a keyboard and exhort workers to watch their wages be cut to under 30K a year. And then expect them to take another cut. Sure they can go find another job, because there are so many available.

If we expect people to work and not mooch off the government, noy homeschool our kids because government schools are endoctrination centers, then there have to be family wage jobs out there.

My husband and I work three jobs between us. And that doesn’t count the homeschooling I do as well. Thank God one of Dh’s jobs is a union job, because, otherwise, we would be on government assistance as well. It’s not like we have a cushy life, but just to provide a lower middle class lifestyle for our children.
