UPDATE: Here is Gene Wangs story from on the ground in China. One excerpt:
What began as a goodwill trip to China for the Georgetown mens basketball team turned violent Thursday night, when its exhibition game against the Bayi Rockets deteriorated into a melee during which players exchanged blows, chairs were thrown and spectators tossed full water bottles as Hoyas players and coaches headed to the locker room at Olympic Sports Center Stadium.

I'm sorry , you're right . I read what I wrote and it came out wrong. what I meant to say was that they may have better equipment than we think they have, not that they have better equipment than we have. However if you look at what they are willing to do to improve and what we're doing as far as cutbacks on expenditures in order to pay off social security fake disability checks to porch monkeys.....well there you have it. Pay for crucifixes in urine or R&D. Boondoggle to pay off unions or retirement for military, etc....
Yeah, I know their subs are sh#t compared to ours, but gee-whiz one just happened to pop up right in the middle of an aircraft carriers group during one of our military maneuvers. .
The subs, missiles and even people will have or might have the only advantage of being numerically superior. In other words like the Germans had Tiger tanks, but our Shermans or better yet the crappy Russian tanks just flat out outnumbered them and overwhelmed them. Similar to the suicide frontal assaults of the Japanese.
Now the other point isn't that I think China or anybody would "win", but just how much would we lose in order to fight a military war.
You seem to understand what I'm talking about so my point is that of Clausewitz..... by the time military actions start, the state of war has existed and the outcome should not be questionable. War is just an extension of the political.
As far as missiles, all it takes is one "lucky" one to put the hurt on us. Look at how the press and everybody carried on about casualties during Bush's term..... they of course never mention them with our current TOFUS... but how do you think mom and pop would react to something as tragic and accidental and as "unlucky" as CLICK ON THIS...
If it were a Republican president when this happened, my gawd... we'd have to offer the human sacrifice of a Christian Republican politician in order to satisfy the quislings we have in the democrat party.
I think we've been probed and tested. Our logistics and temperament in conflicts near and far show that, we fight... but maybe not so much.

More response to your misunderstanding about China:
Their population of over 1 billion and standing army of over 2 million aren't going to be allowed to "protest" or "sue" the government over austerity measures. Imagine all the porch monkeys and parasites in this country if the monthly check didn't come and they were made to actually work for some cash.
Yes China's population is over 1 billion and that population is a worry for the Chinese government. Aside from the cities located along the coast of China, the interior where most of the population is located remains DIRT POOR!
China has always had a problem with feeding their people. The last famine was in 1961
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Chinese_Famine).
China could be on the brink of another great famine due to crop failure and weather conditions. What would China do then? The concept of this "Rising China" and " The Chinese Century" would be seen as a joke
China Drought Prompts U.N. to Issue Warning - NYTimes.com www.nytimes.com/2011/02/09/business/global/09food.html?pagewanted...
Look this up and understand that China is far from the super power you have been led to believe:
The 20102011 China drought was a drought that began in late 2010 and impacted eight provinces in the northern part of the People's Republic of China (PRC). It was the worst drought to hit the country in 60 years, and it affected most of wheat-producing regions in the PRC.
Finally, why would India, Vietnam or Singapore side with us in a conflict? If one of them mined their ports, what do you think China's response would be? Talk? not likely and everybody is figuring it out.
China tried fighting Vietnam not to long ago and got their behinds kicked. China and Vietnam have recently exchanged gun fire in the South China Sea. India does not regard China as a friend due to the Chinese military build up on their northern border. If you do not know these facts you need to research them and get current. Both India and Vietnam have requested deeper relations with America. China is very upset over these developments
As for the rest of your post I agree that in many cases America has been hollowed out by stupid people acting like the flea wishing for the dog to die.
But never underestimate this country. There are still plenty of people would believe in the American way and stand ready to answer the bell

The crowd was also very uncharacteristically Chinese, and were throwing things onto the floor as the players were being corralled and led away by the Georgetown staff.
I read about an British Dart team who went to Chhina to play a tournament. The brits were cleaning the chinese clock when it became evident that the chinese were restive and upset. The Brits purposefully tied the game and actually at one point carried the chines dart to the bullseye. The chinese did not care how the game was tied but that the brits backed down and Chinese face was not lost.
I would never send any sports team to china. They dont know how to play team sports and they do not understand losing.

I agree. At this time India is our friend. Especially since we use them as a stick to Pakistan. As far as the Chinese v Vietnamese. You make my point about the interior being poor and the Chinese dilemma of what to do with them. I think that the Chinese wouldn't mind losing a lot of men in a conflict was what I meant .
I suppose that I am not an expert on China or can claim any other special knowledge than personal observation going from Lhasa to areas around Changsau and skedaddling down to Macau/Hong Kong a couple of times.
It just seems very busy and one other observation their poor people are skinny and ours.... well not so much.

Like you say and I agree the United States is in deplorable shape with the many problems, social problems, we face. But America is light years ahead of whoever is in second place. I am doing my share and plan to do more to help this country retain its greatness. This is my home and nothing is more important than home

Only nominally. It stopped being “Catholic” years ago.

The guy in the middle kicking the G’town player is obviously not on the Chinese team. So how did he get into the middle of things?
