No sport in America is more patriotic than Major League Baseball, so it was odd that the powers that be got in the way of a tribute to our fallen military heroes.

The Washington Nationals, who play their home games just down the street from the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol, wanted to wear special hats with military insignias during their game with the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night. This was the Nats' first home game since 30 soldiers riding in a helicopter were killed in Afghanistan on August 6th. But Commissioner Bud Selig's top executives stopped it from happening.

Hey MLB -

I quit watching when my favorite team started promoting your recent support of LGBT. I’m itching to watch a game, but you’re just doing things that won’t attract me back.

“MLB had no problem doing pink for breast cancer.”

Yeah, but there’s no way they didn’t somehow rake in a fortune off that. The military thing must have been proposed without the kickback.

The armed forces symbols would be a huge improvement over the current Walgreens logo they currently wear.

For all the faults of the NCAA, at least they don’t pull this kind of crap. I know the Vanderbilt baseball team wore red, white and blue uniforms on Sundays as a show of respect for the military, according to their coach.

I’m sure this all comes down to $$$. The military insignia hats probably can’t be sold by partner New Era Caps, so MLB has no financial incentive to allow the Nats to wear a hat that fans can’t buy in their stores.

I’ll bet the Padres’ cammo hats are available for purchase, because they don’t use insignia, just a generic cammo design. That’s why those hats are allowed and these weren’t.

they won’t let players wear any hat unless they’ve nailed down the copyright first so they can then sell them online hundreds of bucks a pop

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bud Selig personally decided against this, here’s his political donations: http://www.newsmeat.com/sports_political_donations/Allan_Bud_Selig.php

My interest in MLB ceased to exist after the 1994 World Series was cancelled.

I have one of the official baseballs that was supposed to be used in that Series.

They also have a company of Marine Corps recruits from MCRD in attendance at the Sunday games.

Times sure have changed since 1966...

America wants an instant replay on this reprehensible and anti-patriotic decision by MLB.

A friend contacted MLB. The employee didn't engage in much of a conversation but she said the message would be forwarded.
