Rick Perry has counted on the staunch support of Texas conservatives during his two decades of statewide triumphs in Texas. Hes an anti-tax, anti-spending, anti-regulation, anti-Washington stalwart.
Richard A. Viguerie, chairman of ConservativeHQ.com and a leader on the right since the days of Ronald Reagan, called Perry a committed conservative whose presidential announcement brought a wave of relief to conservatives.
Then why are some conservative bloggers and activists warning others on the political right about a Perry presidential candidacy?
Before Republicans start salivating too heavily, it is important to examine Perry closely, says conservative talk-show host David Zublick. His conservative bona fides leave much to be desired.

DRey, I did not know that and am fascinated Rick Perry observed Israel's border security for a model to implement here in Texas. I can only guess Israel has to have a strong border as they are surrounded in every direction by one after another nation that would love to annihilate them.
I just think that is really cool Rick Perry went there to do that.
I heard Rick Perry once say one of the benefits of having states rights is the ability for states to learn what works and does not work for other states and to have that chance to strengthen what their own states do based upon what they have learned from others.
It seems like Rick Perry truly believes in that principle, learning from another country that needs a strong border to even just survive.
Bravos to Rick Perry for that!
Just a word on the vaccinations. I bothered me too. My daughter was 5 at the time and I was furious. Here are some facts. The vaccine was for preventing cervical cancer, not STDs. Insurance would not pay for it ($360 out of pocket) unless it was state mandated. Perry added it to the other required vaccinations to avoid the expense for this GOOD VACCINE, but also offered an opt-out (unlike the other vaccines) for those of us who didn’t want it or didn’t trust it. He didn’t get kickbacks. Both his parents suffered from cancer, both eventually beat it. His wife is a nurse and it was important to her. They felt they could eliminate cervical cancer in Texas and went too far. As you said, he DID apologize. He said he should have done an opt-in instead of opt-out. Of course, the opt-in would mean everyone had to pay the $360 themselves. Just the facts.
Will the authentic Slick Rick please stand up?
Flame away? No. That was too nonsensical. Do you even know what you said?
She's running for Governor again? Heck, I didn't know she was a Texas resident.
Then who is the man? Cain...?
Didn't even bother to check my profile before you spouted that, did you?
You and I have had our words, and you've proven that you're incapable of debating without resorting to ad hominems and insults. You're stalking me, and you need to knock it off.
Good grief. It’s not FREE tuition, and it most certainly does help them integrate, if they hadn’t already. I suppose now you’ll have a fit that the US military hires and PAYS Mexicans to serve in our military? Oh, no!!! You have got to broaden your thinking in your small world. Things are not so black and white as you think they are.
I’m sorry to tell you, but he’s not listening. But thank you for your post.
He also thinks he’s damn good-lookin’. Let’s hang him!!!
What a convenient memory you have. Look it up. Perry is a danged ole shrew next to GWB’s liberalism on the border.
As a Texan born and raised, let me congratulate you for your ancestry.
You need help. Serious help.
I'm afraid it won't be Cain - even if you and I wanted it to be. He's losing traction, and will soon be out of the race, in my opinion.
It's been clear to me since Obama was elected, that the one person who's got the best combination of skills, ideology, stamina, guts, track record, longevity, executive experience, smarts, instincts, drawing power, support, charisma, and courage, is Sarah Palin.
I've been supporting her for president in 2012, since January 2009.
Great to meet you, Windflier! That is great you have home schooled!
Our little guys have all grown up, but we home schooled all three of ours from the very beginning up to college. Our oldest daughter graduated from a Christian college, got married, and now owns a Christian dance studio that is doing very well. Our middle daughter is in college, is married, and has a baby now, but she's still working hard to finish college still. Our "baby" son is in college now too.
When we first started home schooling, I used to think a private Christian school would be the best. I was thinking "of course little ME couldn't do something like they could." But the Lord never let us have enough money to do that throughout the years. So... we kept home schooling.
After many years, it dawned on me that we had not been LIMITED by the Lord. We had been BLESSED by the Lord.
He kept us JUST tight enough that we had to turn down the idea of a private school in so many of those first few years... but it ended up being that situation that gave us many years of learning, living, and enjoying life together.
Our middle daughter, the one that has a child of her own now, says she is going to home school as well.
I'm sure you have experienced this too, but I've always shared with others that when you home school, no matter HOW long you do it, you will have those days when you second guess yourself. Should I be doing this? Am I doing something I should not? Am I doing something wrong for my kids? Am I going to fall apart here?
Then you just get through that one day and face another, and you keep going.
The important thing, I tell others, is that you'll always have doubts on some days. Some days will be bad, and the doubting NEVER goes away. It takes a lot of patience, a lot of love, and a lot of forgiving, and that's just what we need to give OURSELVES! LOL
Anyway, glad again to meet you, Windflyer!
Looking forward to seeing more of you!
You didn’t know it because it isn’t true.
“President Fox’s vision of an open border is a vision I embrace” - Rick Perry
Perry has been an amnesty supporter from day one.
The world holds no prefect men, the world of politics least of all.
As Benjamin Franklin once said Politics is the art of the possible. I have been made quite aware of Perrys questionable past, and political history. What concerns me most about our canadit is their rhetoric.
Why?
Simple because I dont serous believe any of them are going to be able to(even if they were so inclined) seriously cut down the Federal Government.
Indeed even if they did it would be almost as temporary a victory as their term of office. Any power the Federal government voluntarily gives up it can and will almost as quickly voluntarily reclaim.
We are dealing with a systematic problem here not a political problem, and we require a systematic solution. That systematic solution will of course requires political will & action to implement but not from Washington D.C..
If we are to systematically check & balance this Federal monster over the significant long run (as is required) we must create and empower anther competing force to challenge and hold it in place over the same period. In these United States that force is the self-interest of our States.
So no I dont much care what a president Perry does (It doesnt much matter), its what he says that motivates others to act and helps further reshape and reposition the political climate to where we need it to be. That is what matters at this stage in the game.
