This accounts for the original “beef” between GWB and Perry. Perry refused to push GWB’s policies on the border and opted for a more conservative one. Upon becoming governor he went to Israel to learn how THEY were securing THEIR border, and came back to see what he could implement in Texas

DRey, I did not know that and am fascinated Rick Perry observed Israel's border security for a model to implement here in Texas. I can only guess Israel has to have a strong border as they are surrounded in every direction by one after another nation that would love to annihilate them.

I just think that is really cool Rick Perry went there to do that.

I heard Rick Perry once say one of the benefits of having states rights is the ability for states to learn what works and does not work for other states and to have that chance to strengthen what their own states do based upon what they have learned from others.

It seems like Rick Perry truly believes in that principle, learning from another country that needs a strong border to even just survive.

Bravos to Rick Perry for that!

He observed in Israel that they used predator drones on their border. He immediately came back requesting assistance with this from the feds. You see, Texas has 64% of the Mexican border, but is only given 20% of the federal funding. Obama hates Texas. They, of course, refused the drones.

You will hear all kinds of nonsense about Perry being "soft" on the border, or even that he is for amnesty. Aside from jobs, border security is his #1 concern. He is on record repeatedly saying that until the federal government fulfills its CONSTITUTIONAL obligation to secure our borders, rational discussion on legal and illegal immigrants cannot take place. He is also on record against "a fence." That's misleading. We have LOTS of fences in Texas, where fences are needed. But Texas is defined by the Rio Grande, a no-man's land where no fool would dare to cross. Also, if fences separated us from the river, all the farmers and ranchers would be cut off from the river -- enter the drones and manpower Perry has requested.

Anyway, I'm glad to give the info on Israel. You can Google Perry and Israel and see. He's very serious about our security.

You didn’t know it because it isn’t true.

“President Fox’s vision of an open border is a vision I embrace” - Rick Perry

Perry has been an amnesty supporter from day one.
