On Monday, during a stop on his supposedly non-campaign bus tour of the Midwest, President Obama made an absurd claim regarding the treatment he received from his political opponents (emphasis added):
When you listen to what the Federalists said about the Anti-Federalists, and the names that Jefferson called Hamilton and back and forth I mean those guys were tough, Obama said. Lincoln they used to talk about him almost as bad as they talk about me. So democracy has never been for the faint of heart.
Interestingly, Governor Palin had visited the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum as part of her One Nation bus tour just the day before President Obama made this absurd claim, and she has tweeted the following response:
Obama: Lincoln--they talked about him almost as bad as they talk about me Mr. Pres -- tour Lincoln Museum anti-Abe display; try repeating claim
Governor Palin was likely referencing an exhibit in the museum called The Whispering Gallery. The museums website describes this exhibit:
The Whispering Gallery is a twisted, nightmarish hallway where you will hear brutally unkind things said about Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln during their early months in Washington. On the walls are cruel caricatures and barbed political cartoons that attack the Lincolns.
The charges made by opponents and grotesque caricatures of President Lincoln drawn by political cartoonists during this politically heated time in our nations history, as displayed at this museum, would make the political rhetoric of today pale in comparison. The museum curators and planners have made this section of the museum very dim, and the lighting eerily illuminates the reproduced newspaper headlines and cartoons coupled with chilling audio give museum visitors a multi-sensory perspective of what President Lincoln faced.
.
I honestly think the attacks against Palin have been as bad, maybe worse, than those against Lincoln. (With the exception of the final attack, of course.)
.
I’ve been to the Lincoln library in Springfield. All those attacks against Lincoln were from the media the same way Reagan and Bush were attacked in our time. They were pure hate. Obama was never attacked like that.
Yes I also went to the Lincoln Musuem a couple of years ago and they had some of those negative media attacks against Lincoln. Quite frankly it was so vicious it really didn’t even compare to today.
Does Obama ever stop whining about how tough he thinks he’s got it? This guy such a thinned-skinned pansie. Yeah, and his Party treated Bush cordially... pffft... What a loser.
Man up, Barry, it’s nothing a gal from the sticks hasn’t withstood ten times over.
(What she could have said).
Barry knew he was half “black” when he decided to enter politics. He needs to man up and stop all of his whining. Being wee wee’d up all the time is very unbecoming for a President of the United States. Americans aren’t used to having a crybaby in the Oval Office.
There were two walls just filled with editorial pictures vilifying Lincoln. How does Obama get away with saying he’s been done to the same when all the media is on his side. Anyone saying anything against him is accused of being a racist. Obama is delusional.
Obama is such a victim....
The only thing Barack 0bama has in common with Abraham Lincoln is that they were both born somewhere else but later moved to Illinois.
I think side by side comparisons on poster boards in marches would be enlightening. Are those pix/quotes attacking Abe on the net anywhere?
He brought it up and pushed it so fair game now. Though I imagine he did it knowing if anyone did the above that the racism charges would fly. Such is the sorry state of our ‘free’ press. But boy would I LOVE to see it rammed down all the Dem’s throats.
Except that Lincoln was the second greatest president (after Washington), who freed the slaves, saved the union, had a strong character, personal drive to do what is right at any cost and who is remembered with admiration by all the world.
Other than that, Obama is just like Lincoln.
They both did start a Civil War?
Pray for America
Exactly. Obama never passes up a chance to cry and tell everyone how tough he’s got it. Seriously, it’s nuaseating. It should be against the law for him to hand out Congressional Medals of Honor!
Does the bamster have a death wish?
Perhaps he does not know what happened to old Abe in the Ford Theater? He obviously has no knowledge of American history which is no surprise since he wasn’t born here...
I’m old enough to have personally known Abe Lincoln. Believe me, the bamster is no... etc.
I like it where it says “Honest Abe from Illinois” when he was born in Kentucky.
All those posters and editorial cartoons are hanging on the walls of the Lincoln library.
Re: “They both did start a Civil War?”
Actually, I do see where Obama may start a civil war, but Lincoln did not “start” The American Civil War - it began long before he was elected.
