Rick Perry called the idea of a wall across the entire U.S.-Mexico border ridiculous today in a stop in New Hampshire.
You got strategic fencing in some of the metropolitan areas its very helpful, the Texas governor said. But the idea that youre going to build a wall from Brownsville to El Paso is just -- its ridiculous on its face.
That was in the context of Perry saying how he'd asked Washington for 1,000 National Guard troops and how current efforts at border security are ineffective.
Perry swatted at the Obama administrations assertion that the border is safer than its ever been.
Six week ago, the president went to El Paso and sai the border is safer than its ever been, Perry began. I have no idea, maybe he was talking about the Canadian border. I will assure you one thing, if Im president of the United States, the border will be secure.

There is not one candidate declared or probable to declare who is going to deport 12 million illegals.
Maybe the materials would be expensive, but the labor would be mostly free -- because we could arrest every illegal that comes to the attention of LEO, and put them to work for six months on the wall, before deporting them to Mexico with a tattoo on their foreheads saying: "Property of Mexico."
True.. but about as likely as a wall going up which for the most part would be a minor obstacle for those trying to get across.
Perry is the voice of sanity on this topic.
Phil Collins used to sing "It's no fun ... being an illegal alien".
Phil was whining.
But it should be no fun. Welfare laws, banking laws, school admission laws, VOTING laws, etc. should make the life of an illegal alien trying, bothersome, and not worth the trouble.
They don't ... and that's the real source of our problem.
Easy to spot, aren't they?
Well if the situation calls for a really futile and stupid gesture to be done on someone’s part then Senator Blutarsky would be the first to tell you that the feds are just the guys to do it.
Yes, because drones and 24/7 manpower on ever square inch of the border is soooooooo much cheaper...../s
It is not the methodology that is lacking. What is lacking is the will to secure the border.
We don’t need a freaking WALL.
We just need to do what most countries do:
If you’re illegal, you cannot get schooling or non-emergency medical care. You cannot get gov’t benefits, and anybody that hires you + gets caught, gets fined heavily. Third offense hiring an illegal is $50,000 fine.
Illegals would stop coming mostly.
Americans would have more jobs.
Posted by Ben Shapiro Bio ↓ on Aug 17th, 2011 This is the only spot on Perrys record where he will have some explaining to do. His record on illegal immigration is mixed. He opposed SB 1070 in Arizona, feeling that it placed enforcement obligations in the hands of states that ought to lie with the federal government; he opposed EVerify, a program designed to punish employers who hire illegals; he signed a Texas DREAM Act which allowed in-state tuition for children of illegals. On the other hand, he has taken strong action against sanctuary cities; he has executed a Mexican national who raped and murdered an American; he has called for heavy border security, including drones to monitor activity areas. Unlike the other candidates, he is governor of a border state and routinely works with the Mexican government. He won 39 percent of the Hispanic vote in 2010.
So, is Perry the right man for the job? In the days and weeks to come, we will find out much more about him. There is mudslinging to come, but so far so good.

He wants 1000’s of troops on the border, he just thinks the fence is a silly idea. And I agree, and if you owned property along the border you would too! Can you imagine owning property on the Rio Grande (the only water source within 100’s of miles) and then having the government come and build a giant fence on YOUR property cutting you off from the river? naaa, didn't think so! Because you never thought this through.
he has already said he is opposed to deportations unless the illegal is a felon.
“Easy to spot, aren’t they?”
Yep and as you can tell by my tagline, your guy ain’t really high on my list (but I could vote for him depending on how the primaries play out) either so I’m not defending him, just pointing out the willful ignorance of those that already don’t care for him.
[ We could sub it out to the North Koreans... ]
Don’t you mean South Koreans? They have these cool machine guns with motion sensors mounted on them that are like automatic sentry turrets.
Well, if anyone has spent any time in Big Bend, they would realize he is right. There are segments of the border where a wall or fence just would not be practical due to topography and geography. There are areas where a fence makes sense, and areas where it would not. It is not like Arizona, where the border is pretty much just desert. In Texas, it is almost all river, and there are some pretty steep canyons and rough country along that route.
A border wall from San Diego to Brownsville impossible? We are the country that put man on the moon. The wall can be physical or virtual. What do we want? We have drones with cameras, we can un handcuff the Border Patrol, we can put up reinforced concrete walls in high traffic areas, we can put chain link double razor wire in the wilderness. We can also enforce the damn laws. Legals please come in and contribute to America. Ilegales? Entrada en a Estados Unidos Prohibido. Si vienen, Volvremos a sus nacion de origin. Comprende?!
When they can no longer get what they come here for, work for money to repatriate back home, they will go home and not come back.
