While on a bus tour this week across a midwest ravaged by deindustrialisation, President Barack Obama has ironically been touting job-killing free trade agreements.
Mitt Romney deemed the road trip, which goes through an archipelago of shuttered factories and mills, as Obama's "Magical Misery Tour", though the former governor and CEO would undoubtedly promote the same free trade policies even more fervently. Obama won Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois in 2008, but is set to lose them in 2012 if he remains on the free trade bandwagon. Last week, he visited Michigan, the epicentre of American manufacturing's decimation.
A May report from the liberal Economic Policy Institute (pdf) finds that the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta), which was primarily touted as a job creator, has cost the US 682,900 jobs, 61% of them in manufacturing. Many jobs have moved south to Mexico, resulting in a switch in the two countries' trade deficit. In 1993, the US had a $1.6bn trade surplus with Mexico; in 2010, the tides turned and Mexico held a trade surplus of $97.2bn over the US.
The consequences of Nafta have not been positive in Mexico, either: the US has seen a historic flow of Mexican immigrants across the border, driven by the closure of plants unable to compete with transnational companies, the elimination of peasant agriculture, and rising consumer prices have driven a historic flow of immigrants across the US border. This convoy of economic refugees has weakened only recently, mostly due to the downturn.

All p*ss and vinegar from the demoralized hard left today. Amusing.
Short Bus One has entered the ditch.
I predict a wave of new subscriptions to the "Guardian" from protectionist FReepers.
lol
I like that!
The short bus tour!
ROFL!
ALLOW ME TO BRING BACK A PHRASE THAT STILL HOLDS TRUE “YOU LIE”
Does free trade kill jobs? In the way it has been implemented, yes. But so does boneheaded management and boneheaded labor and especially boneheaded energy policy.
Mitt Romney deemed the road trip, which goes through an archipelago of shuttered factories and mills, as Obama's "Magical Misery Tour" (...)
Whomever wrote that line for Mittens earned their paycheck for the week.

Obama isn't going to lose IL.

I suspect Mexico's problems are more due to corrupt narco-kleptocracy death cult currently in charge (both in the government and in the streets).
He should go back to his community organizer skills. He should get a hand stapler. Next he should write his message down on a piece of 8 X 10 paper. Then he should take his message and staple it to a telephone poll. He should repeat that action until he gets his message out.
Strange how we have to go to the foreign press to get the real stuff on what zero’s doing. CNN is promoting a story on zero’s bus and wonders how pimped out the bus is with nary a comment on how expensive they (the buses) are and how rolling them through cities and towns devastated by the recession/depression is the height of chutspah!
I wonder what ever became of that Green Paul Wellstone bus.
Plus it’s from the Guardian , the most pro-Obama, anti-American UK rag in existence.
Proving once again....the man is on a destruction drive against America and Americans...invoke the 25th...he is worthless.......to America......
I would like to know who paid for these busses? They are being used for campaign purposes. They were up-armored by the Secret Service (read that somewhere). They should be paid for by Obama’s campaign.
Baraq has no new ideas and won’t waver from his ideology.
He’ll have a billion campaign $$ in 2012 to tell a story that will p!ss off a lot of the people who hear it.

That phrase was first used by a FReeper...Charles something that helps post the DUmmy Funnies.
magical misery tour! Very funny!

Youve seen Tea party leaders confronting Obama in IA. I am asking you to attend metings with Obama and confront him with following questions and documents:
1. ask him, why in his Selective Service Certificate he has aCT Social Security number, that was never issued to him?
2. why is he refusing to consent to inspection of his original birth certificate in HI?
3. Why doesnt he have a valid Social Security number from HI?

Those sweet kids on the short bus don’t deserve to be linked to the Kenyan Kommunist Klown in any way. Funny though.
