Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack told MSNBCs Morning Joe that the Obama administration has a jobs program already in place and its food stamps. When asked about new numbers that show one in every seven Americans now receiving food stamps from the federal government, Vilsack said thats good news. Food stamps create jobs, Vilsack insisted, and managed to even come up with a new multiplier effect number:

OMG! This is scary that they say that. Scary if they’re just saying it thinking we would believe them. OR Scary if they say it because they themselves believe it.
No, it’s Orwellian.
If the folks on food stamps are using some of the food stamp $ to buy fruit and veggie seeds, planting a garden and selling the proceeds in farmers markets, he might be right, otherwise Vilsack is full of BS!
Food Stamps create jobs???
WTF is that $h!t??
This has happened before with bread and fish. We are so lucky to live in these times.
IIRC, republicans voted in favor of the last AG bill that permitted this - 2/3 of that budget was for food stamps.
Good grief!!!!!
Lie, lie, lie.
This statement tells you why they have failed.
Where I live most of the grocery stores replaced union jobs with automated checkers, why? A rise in wholesale and global food prices without a rise in customer demand....why ?? devaluation of the dollar... why?? .... overspending on stuff like food stamps and unemployment comp that was promised to create jobs in 2009 and didnt, it just caused inflation.
Pubbies didn’t vote for Vilsack to pop off with a ridiculous statement like “for every 1.00$ spent on food stamps, 1.84$ is returned to the economy,”. Srsly, that is some effed up spin there. No, increasing food stamp rolls is a BAD thing. Only an insane person would assert something like that. Or a democrat of course. It’s INSANE either way.
Darn, you beat me to it. Whatever you said, I double the intensity on that.
An assertion is an enthusiastic or energetic statement presented as a fact, although it is not necessarily true. They often imply that the statement requires no explanation or back up, but that it should merely be accepted without question.

Times would be good then < / sarc>
Liberals need to be defeated because they are insane.
Food Stamps create jobs this week.
Last week it was Unemployment Benefits creating jobs.
Why stop there.
Social Security checks create jobs.
Welfare payments create jobs.
This is fabulous. All of a sudden everybody is employed!!!!
Well, look at it from their perspective. The effing money the government doles out to low-lifes comes from the money fairy - no work or human capital is involved, therefore it’s a painless freebie in their eyes.
Given that line of bastardized reasoning, it is easy to reach the conclusion that injecting money into the ‘populace’ (in reality, the leeches among us) actually saves or creates jobs - because this is a ‘sink’ for the ‘source’ economic engine - therefore JOBs! VYOLA!
They never even stop to consider the money DOESN’T come from the money fairy - they take it in toto from US, and that the useless overhead rakeoff by government lessens the potential good economic impact that money would have had anyway, left unfettered.
In summation, they are a bunch of stupid, lying shits.
Agreed . dumb lie, but pubbies enabled this fraud by passing the last AG bill.
The only way that I could see how increasing the number of people on food stamps creates jobs is for those companies who print food stamps.
