August 16 Wisconsin recall election results from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel
44EAGLE RIVER, Wis (Reuters) - Voters in two Wisconsin State Senate districts head to the polls on Tuesday in the last of nine recall elections triggered by the fight earlier this year over Republican-backed curbs on the union rights of public workers.
In Tuesday's two final special elections, Jim Holperin and Robert Wirch -- two Democrats who opposed the anti-union measure and even fled the state for weeks in an unsuccessful effort to prevent its passage -- are defending their seats.
Holperin seems to be in the tighter race. His rival is Kim Simac, founder of the Northwoods Patriots, a Tea Party group. Though Simac is a political novice, the district has leaned Republican in the three years since Holperin was elected.
No matter who wins, Republican Governor Scott Walker and his Republican allies will retain control of the legislature, where the battle over public workers' union powers was waged earlier this year with public protests, legislative maneuvering and court challenges.
With seven of the nine recalls over, Republicans have managed to keep control of the state senate -- 17 to 16 if they score no wins on Tuesday -- because Democrats failed to unseat three Republican state Senators in the key round of six GOP senate recalls last week.
I’ve visited a few Leftist sites just to gauge the pulse of the day and they all seem oblivious to the election today. I realize they’re probably not WI voters, but the “big” election last week seems to be throwing a lot of dumb Democorrupts off.
What a great inadvertent strategy for us.
Important to pick off a Democratic seat to send a message to the cowards who fled the state.
If so, it should prolly be in Breaking ?
If not, anyone know where the 'official' one is ?
On one of last week’s threads, someone said that one of the Republicans who avoided recall was at risk of switching parties. Is that a serious possibility?
Reminds me of the movie The Car!
Thanks for posting this.
I heard some firsthand reports from people in the north woods, I was making GOTV calls for Kim Simac. The turnout is huge, one person told me it was bigger than in presidential elections. I feel pretty good about Simac beating Holperin but I’m not going to be too confident until the results are in. There is no real voter fraud in the way up north in WI fortunately.
On the other hand. I heard a couple of second-hand reports from voters in Kenosha. The turnout is huge there too but I heard two reports that there were lots of cars with Illinois plates parked at the polling places.
Just one would be great!
Bumping the thread..
That's illogical. Aren't these all 2-year terms? If so, NOBODY has served a year, and none of last week's elections could have happened. Nor today's. Or am I off about the 2-year terms?
I do understand they can't recall Walker because of the one-year thing, but he's a Gov, not Sen.
Throughout today we've learned more details about the possibility that 'moderate' Republican Dale Schultz may bolt the GOP and join with the Democrats. He is under intense pressure from Senate Democrats to switch sides - in fact Schultz once was a Democrat. Schultz also was the ONLY Republican who voted against Gov. Walker's budget reform bill and then publicly criticized Governor Walker for his efforts to bring fiscal sanity to Wisconsin.
We learned today that Schultz even went to the Democrat Leader in the Senate and offered himself as a vote for them in the Senate.
This would be disastrous and would mean Democrats would be able to block Gov. Walker's agenda in Wisconsin. We can't let the Left win this way.
That's why we are going all out to win in the 2 RECALL campaigns against Democrats that take place next Tuesday. In fact, if we prevail in these two races the net gain for Democrats through this entire RECALL process will have been ZERO (0) seats. They will have spent more than $30 MILLION for nothing!
N/M. I see Senate has 4-year terms.
For the Dems this is the equivalent of a bronze medal game when they thought for sure they were a shoe in for the gold.
Maybe the unionistas will stay home today as a protest against WEAC’s heartless firing yesterday of 40% of its staff. But probably not.
It looks like the top should open up and an ICBM should launch from it.
A sith!? Where?!
Someone from there told me one senate district is in a liberal district...the other one is not. I am praying the dems lose both...
I googled and can't find not 1 legitimate source posting about this.
GO TEA PARTY-GOP WISCONSIN!
Our prayers are with you! Seriously.
May God keep watch over WI, like I believe He is!
Didn’t understand how the Republican seats had one voting date and the Democrat ones had another. Was it so Dems would have time to vote in both?
Light or heavy may portend victory or defeat.
