Ryan for President? (Ryan is in the final stages of deciding)
weeklystandard ^ | Tuesday August 16, 2011 | Stephen Hayes

Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan is strongly considering a run for president. Ryan, who has been quietly meeting with political strategists to discuss a bid over the past three months, is on vacation in Colorado discussing a prospective run with his family. Ryan’s concerns about the effects of a presidential campaign – and perhaps a presidency – on his family have been his primary focus as he thinks through his political future. Paul Ryan

“He’s coming around,” says a Republican source close to Ryan, who has been urging the 41-year-old to run.

Ryan hinted at his thinking during a candid interview Friday with Charlie Sykes, an influential talk radio host in Milwaukee, telling Sykes that he was unsatisfied with the current crop of Republican candidates.

[...]

Perhaps more telling was Ryan’s request not to serve on the debt supercommittee created by the recent deal on the debt ceiling. Ryan went to House speaker John Boehner and specifically requested to be left off of the panel. A source close to the Wisconsin congressman says he asked to remain off the supercommittee in order to preserve the option of a presidential run. The same source says that Boehner encouraged Ryan to run.

In his interview Friday with Charlie Sykes, Ryan argued that the supercommittee is not the place to debate debt and deficits – the 2012 campaign is. “The reason I don’t think it’s going to get us another grand bargain – or should – is we should not have a system where 12 politicians cut some agreement in a back room that restructures the whole design of the federal government in three months time. This is a decision that should be brought to the American people.”

He could beat Obama easily. Not sure of his issue positions though.

But he could beat him. Obama knows it.

From what I’ve seen of him, I like Ryan. Of course the dems would accuse him to pushing granny off the cliff.

Funny thing, I thought he already strongly declined to run.

What’s this?

We were led to believe that he made himself a non-factor, and that it was final, at least for 2012.

His family concerns, right?

Suddenly he’s not that concerned for them?

?????

Whenever asked most of them decline. Nothing new about that.

I'd vote for him for this statement alone!

I don’t believe Ryan has ever said he considered running and then decided not oit
could you be thinking of Mitch daniel that was going to run but decided not to due to family concerns.

with ryan’s amazing ability to see all angles of a problem and then come up with ways to solve it makes him my ideal candidate
This ability isn’t limited to economics

Out of all of them, he would absolutely obliterate Obama in any debate.

I'm sure he's prefer to be home with his young family, but he'd also prefer that his children grow up in a free and prosperous country.

I like and respect Paul Ryan...my concern as with Bachmann is NO EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE....and Congressmen don’t ever become President. In all our years as a country only one won and that was in the 18th century.

Congressmen in general just don’t win the presidency.

Rubio has to proven his NBC status. Both his parents were born in Cuba...they were born when Cuba was a US Colony and that makes them US Citizens. However, did they denounce that citizenship as adults in Cuba? Rubio has to step forward with this information on his parents...since so far, he has NOT then he isn’t eligible to run for VP.

Not at all.

Pressure was put on Ryan to run. People kept bringing up his name, saying if only Ryan would run, he could beat Obama.

He did not do a Mitch Daniels. He outright rejected even considering a run, because “I have a young family” to think of right now.

That was my point in my post.

I would be in full support of Ryan. My only question is, how would the American people think of a 41 year old running for President. Obama’s main attack against him last time was his youth and inexperience. Ryan has more experience at this stage than Obama but now Obama will have had 4 years of the Presidency and Obama is now 50. I’m just thinking about those swing voters who are disappointed in Obama and blame his youth and relative inexperience (not necessarily his politics) against him. Ryan might be a tough sell to some of those independents.

I think his entry would be more of bringing the discussion of the debt issues and having a plan into full view (Bachmann is the only one talking about it but in talking points mode not details).....plus he might be considering a VP slot and being out there will let people see how he does.
