Neal Boortz called the 2012 election, and sadly he is "probably" right.

Posted on 08/16/2011 7:20:47 AM PDT by Scythian

I was listening to him last night as I was driving my son to his boy scout "Court of Honor". He's really starting to take an interest in these things.

Anyway, my favorite is Bachmann as many of you know. Well Boortz starts off with "Bachmann and Palin and Santorim have ZERO chance of winning the election, and here's why ..." I'm open minded, always willing to listen to anyones argument. And so he goes on ...

He stated that 42% of democrats will vote for the democrat no matter what, and 38% of republicans will vote for the republican no matter what. The battle is for those that vote independent. And there's no way a big "pro-life or pro-christian or pro-flag waving candidate is going to make a person who voted for Obama now vote for a republican, it ain't going to happen.

He wen't on to layout the argument that the only two candidates in the race that could win these more or less semi-liberal independents were Romney and Perry. Boortz didn't say he liked that or that it was he choice, but that if anybody else wins the nomination for the GOP then Obama wins, hands down.

As much as I hate to admit it, he's probably right, and this is why we keep winding up with these middle of the road types.

My candidate is Bachmann, but I think Boortz is right, independents will not vote for somebody who protested at abortion clinics, it's jobs and economy and nothing more. The conservative values are great for the base, but then the base almost always votes for the eventual candidate no matter what anyway.

What do you guys think? I can't relay what he said well, but it was well said.

I think Obama wins anyway, because he’ll get the “He’s the ‘Devil You Know’ vote.”

I’m one of that 38%, so... I dunno.

I've heard 43% - 37%, but the premise of the statement is correct. The battle is for the indies, and the country isn't quite as conservative as many of us would like to believe.

This line of reasoning assumes a limited pool of voters...as if we had 100% voter turnout last election; and, a new vote for a GOP candidate has to come from a pool of ex-Obama voters.

Another theory (which prevents candidates from the race to the middle) is that you get votes by energizing your base...and a new GOP vote may come from an ex stay at home voter.

Disagree - why would anyone believe that only 38% of Republicans would vote for a Republican????

It really boils down to a dozen states that are in play. Smaller ones like New Hampshire, New Mexico and Nevada are once again important.

I think acute economic pain and uncertainty can focus the formerly unengaged mind.

I think Boortz' libertarian dogma sometimes clouds his judgement.

Where did you get this? I would think Boortz would support his friend Herman Cain.

I think what Boortz meant was that 38% of the overall electorate would vote for the Republican, no matter what....not 38% of Republicans.

Boortz looks at the world through his libertarian lens, which is magnifies things such as a sincere pro-life stance.

If a GOP candidate runs a campaign that does nothing but emphasize right-to-life issues, sure, they *might* lose. But any Republican with an ounce a sense will run a campaign that emphasizes the fact that Obama runs a country about as well as he throws a baseball - and even my dog would outpoll Obama if the issue is competance (no matter what her stand on abortion).

Why in the world, are we espousing self-inflicted FUD?

How does this help?

it's jobs and economy and nothing more.

SO...People will not vote for Palin, Bachmann or Perry because they will( in voter's minds) do less for the economy than the MFWIC?

Got it.

Who said?

“If you voted for Obama to prove you are not a racist, then, in the next election you better vote for someone else to prove that you are not an idiot”

I still don't know enough about Perry to say anything on that topic.

But I am convinced that Romney can be torpedoed. I beleive the MSM chose McCain in 2008 as the Republican nominee because McCain was weak and could be destroyed. Romney is the same -- he's a flip-flopper, he likes socialized medicine, and he's not a Christian. The MSM can come up with more if it needs to. The people who like Romney the most are the Democrats, and the Democrats will be voting for Barack.

Romney may well be the GOP nominee, but in a contest between Obama and Romney, I say Obama wins.

I just don’t have enough faith in the electorate...if they were stupid enough to vote for him once, they’ll be stupid enough to vote for him again.
