In an interview with an Iowa radio station on Monday, the Republican presidential contender explained his role as the Gore campaigns Texas chairman by saying that this was Al Gore before he invented the Internet and got to be Mr. Global Warming.
But in fact, global warming was already a significant theme for Gore in 1987 and 1988 long before his activism led to several books, a Nobel Prize and a part in an Academy Award-winning film. It was also well before the right gave him the "Mr. Ozone" nickname and talk radio heaped endless mockery on the future vice president.
Right. When one counts Karl Rove and James Carville as enemies, one must be doing something, or very much right.
Norm, I don’t believe for one second that Charles is a troll or a boy. He answered my questions politely. There is no need for hostility toward someone who is a decent person, even if YOU think he is being dense.
Now, as someone else has said, I learned much about Perry today, and I am unimpressed with the man. I trust him less than ever. PALIN/RUBIO ‘12!!! Cordially, Bob
Sorry, homey dont play dat. Thats not what Free Republic is all about.
You get an amen from this corner, brother.
As for his Internet "discovery", Gore made the "I invented the Internet" (yes, I'm paraphrasing, but Gore took credit for it) comment in 1999, but if you had asked Gore in '88 if he created the Internet, you better believe he'd take credit for it. The man hasn't changed one bit, he's always liked to puff up his resume and claim expertise on computer technology. Gore just didn't announce this "fact" until the Internet was widespread enough that claiming credit for it got him votes. Gore seems to be about as honest as Perry when it comes to fudging the historical record.
Here’s Al Gore in 1983 when he was still a Congressman, laying out the case that we’re all DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMED from global warming and climate change:

It looks like we’re going to have to start a list of what Perry has been up to, just like we did with McCain.
Oh brother, here we go with another ten day old bucket of stinking mackerel.
Charles being wrong ? I’m shocked.
Bob, with all due respect, You are half right. He’s not a boy.
As for the rest, he is not being dense, he is willfully ignoring facts that contradict his assertion, has been repeatedly been shown examples of said facts, been told to refer to Gore’s book discussing his long term and well publicized history and he does not even acknowledge that.
Now as to the Trolling behavior, That is a subject that many posters on FR will attest to and the owner himself has warned him about less than 30 hours ago.
If you feel my assertion is in error, I invite you to hit the abuse button and take it up with the boss. I am not in error in a single thing I have posted and am more than willing to admit any error on my part should one somehow be found.
Having spent the late 90s writing on Enviro/land use issues and having that work ‘critiqued’ in no less than Time magazine, I am more than qualified to speak with both knowledge and authority on the subject of Al Gore and his Enviro stances.
Again. Gore was a known eco nut in the referenced timeframe. Perry Lied in his assertion by inference. Our friend repeatedly twisted reality and ignored factual statements and data that countered his claim repeatedly and continued to regurgitate false data. I could literally fill pages with supporting data. However that posted in the original article here is proof enough and none further should have been required to begin with.
Should you choose to find liars and trolls acceptable, that is your choice. I do not. Call that hostile as you will. Again, I respect your, in my opinion, mistaken opinion and invite you to hit the abuse button if you feel such is warranted by my actions.
Well, if that’s what it takes to counter the trolls and paid posters, works for me ;) Let then scream, holler, whine and call us bad names till the clouds burst. Truth is the absolute defense.
Small price to keep the BS from spreading. And who but a troll or paid disruptor would have a problem with the display of factual evidence?
Thanks Norm. Take care.
We’ll all know how bad this is for Perry when privately, his handlers insist he has to do damage control, and he has to hold a press conference or grant a softball interview to re-explain what he REALLY meant to say.
My prediction?: The firestorm won’t die down, and he’ll be forced to give another version within 48 hours.
No Norm, I wouldn’t even consider going behind anyone’s back here. I know that some people such as Charles are frustrating as hell, but that’s life. I think that Charles is one of many who is trying to convince himself, and maybe others, that the grave concerns that we have about Perry are trifling. As for me, I will passionately try to persuade people until the last possible moment that Sarah Palin is the genuine answer to our leadership morass. And that Perry is a fraud, unless I’m convinced otherwise. Thanks, Bob
Only two POTUS were born in Texas. Neither was a Bush. First was Ike who gave us the Earl Warren Court and second was LBJ. Da Bush's are from the northeast Poppy was born in Massachusetts and Junior in New Haven, Connecticut. IOW Rockefeller Republicans. Politically they do have a lot in common with the likes of LBJ.
With that said anyone running for POTUS who was DEM up till 1989 I would be skeptical of. Perry was born in 1950. Being a DEM would mean he would have likely voted McGovern, Carter {twice}, & Mondale.
AMEN
“LOL. Well, if Perrys paid supporters are on this site, they have a lot of splainin to do!!! A lot of dirt is coming out.”
Yea, we’ll never know. But I do remember during the heated Trans-Texas Corridor days (~2006), there was one person who used to talk about his well-connected life in Austin (on other threads). He didn’t quite say he was on paid staff, but he seemed a lot closer to the governor than a typical conservative that wanted to seize some 900 square miles of private farm land and (essentially) turn it over to well-connected corporate interests.
I am over 60. The video was included in the email sent to me. I am not taking a position one way or another on this specific vaccine until I read more about it. The issue for me is whether it should be compulsory or not, not so much its safety. A friend of mine’s daughter died of cervical cancer at the age of 31.
My beef with Perry is his stance on immigration. I will work with every fiber of my being to try to stop him in the primaries. We don't need another McCain or Bush pushing amnesty and rewarding illegals with rights and benefits.
Don’t forget, Perry was a Democrat until he about 40 years old.
I must have missed that “documented proof” of a link to an actual news source where Gore was called Mr Global Warming.
And Bush 41 called him mr ozone AFTER he was elected PResident — which was after the 1988 election, again proving my point that in 1988 Gore was not known as the nutcase eco-terrorist he is today.
