Just donated to perry and bought bumper sticker & yard sign (I am in)

Posted on 08/14/2011 6:43:59 PM PDT by indianrightwinger

I just committed myself 15 mins ago. My first round donation is done. Was always looking for the winnable conservative candidate with extensive executive experience. Between Romney and Perry, choice is clear. Only other possible entrant is Palin and she interested me as a reform minded GOP Governor who was a VP candidate. While she may enter the race and be more to the right of Perry, I am not looking for the "right most" candidate.

And I think you may have been confused about my post Orange1998.

I’ll post it here for you once more so you can see it again.

buccaneer81,

You may already know about this, but in case you don’t, you may want to study this House Resolution and let your congressman know if you want it carried further.

It was introduced by Representative Steve King in January of 2011 but has not been put up for a vote as yet.

Summary

This bill would eliminate birthright citizenship for children born to undocumented immigrants in the U.S. Current U.S. law automatically recognizes any person born on American soil as a natural born citizen. Under the bill, only children with at least one parent who is a U.S. citizen, a legal permanent resident, or an undocumented immigrant serving in the military would be considered citizens.

HR 140 IH

112th CONGRESS

1st Session

H. R. 140

To amend section 301 of the Immigration and Nationality Act to clarify those classes of individuals born in the United States who are nationals and citizens of the United States at birth.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

January 5, 2011

Mr. KING of Iowa (for himself, Mr. GINGREY of Georgia, Mr. GARY G. MILLER of California, and Mr. WOODALL) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary

A BILL

To amend section 301 of the Immigration and Nationality Act to clarify those classes of individuals born in the United States who are nationals and citizens of the United States at birth.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘Birthright Citizenship Act of 2011’.

SEC. 2. CITIZENSHIP AT BIRTH FOR CERTAIN PERSONS BORN IN THE UNITED STATES.

(a) In General- Section 301 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1401) is amended—

(1) by inserting ‘(a) IN GENERAL- ’ before ‘The following’;

(2) by redesignating subsections (a) through (h) as paragraphs (1) through (8), respectively; and

(3) by adding at the end the following:

6
‘(b) Definition- Acknowledging the right of birthright citizenship established by section 1 of the 14th amendment to the Constitution, a person born in the United States shall be considered ‘subject to the jurisdiction’ of the United States for purposes of subsection (a)(1) if the person is born in the United States of parents, one of whom is—

‘(1) a citizen or national of the United States;

‘(2) an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States whose residence is in the United States; or

‘(3) an alien performing active service in the armed forces (as defined in section 101 of title 10, United States Code).’.

(b) Applicability- The amendment made by subsection (a)(3) shall not be construed to affect the citizenship or nationality status of any person born before the date of the enactment of this Act.

Thanks for that. I’ve always thought Steve King was a pretty sharp guy.

I’m sorry my ‘tone’ seemed offensive. Charm school was not a prerequisite on any of my degrees. I tend to be blunt and not suffer fools glady.

I’m glad for whatever provoked you to do some research. But you needn’t worry. Perry’s not for amnesty anyway. He’s for border security and he’s for citizenship the prescribed legal way.

If I seem to have a little too much Perry zeal it’s because I’ve worked with him and staff as a government employee, and then as a member of several of my county’s ad hoc commissions, including health, infrastructure (roads and water), and emergency response, for the many years.

If I insulted you, I sincerely apologize.

"I wanted to thank you for that quote from Jim. (snip) It's disgusting when you can't point out the truly outstanding traits of a candidate."

I am wondering something and wanted to bring this to your attention to see if what I noticed is concerning to any others here.

Outlaw Woman, you hit upon an interesting point... that it is hard to say something here about a candidate sometimes without all the people working for another candidate rolling in in large numbers to engage in name calling and finger pointing.

Might it be because those folk have developed a system of adding keywords by the title so their little group knows to jump in for engagement together?

For instance, I saw the below keywords listed for this thread beside the title (also available keywords for searching):

bachmann2012; liberals4perrt; liberals4perry; perrittes; perry; perry2012; rickperry; vanity; Click to Add Keyword

Now going back and reading the original post for this thread, I would guess the poster most likely added the keywords rick perry, perry 2012, and maybe perry.

I would guess the poster, based on what he/she said and the title of this thread would NOT have added the keywords "liberals4perry", "perrittes" or "bachmann2012".

Seeing that anyone can add keywords after the poster has started a thread and seeing the keywords just in this thread alone lends me to wonder if some here are using the ability to add keywords as a way to unite trolling (even if it is a conservative group trolling for a different conservative candidate).

Personally, I don't think this would be inherently such a problem to be able to add keywords after the fact, and I'm not asking this policy be revisited, but the fact that the later-added keywords themselves seem to sometimes be name calling should at least be acknowledged, and we might want to at least understand that some of these later-added keywords may be signal words to call out the fighting forces against another candidate's followers. (For us who would like to point out truly outstanding traits of another candidate, it might help to understand why we sometimes get so crushed by an entire crowd when we do.)

I'm all for healthy debate between conservatives here. I think we could all agree that both Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin are both conservative, but they do not do everything exactly the same in every single instance. There is room for differences here so we all can learn and come out better people for it.

I just think it might help the rest of us here who just go about our business sharing and talking, studying, learning, and just plain enjoying the Free Republic website and the friends we make there, only to sometimes suddenly feel alone, bullied, and crushed, to understand that it is not always what we have said but that we may simply be targets of a group who has come to obliterate a message.

I thought it might help those of you who have experienced this same thing to at least know where it may be coming from and why it may happen.

Perhaps it might also help to check the keywords on a thread before we post anything of a sensitive nature so we at least know if that particular thread may have been chosen to be lined up for a group's battle.

Let's check out those keywords for this thread once more.

bachmann2012; liberals4perrt; liberals4perry; perrittes; perry; perry2012; rickperry; vanity; Click to Add Keyword

I won't say anything, but people, just remember we can see those.

Keywords never entered my thinking Casinva. Perhaps you are right and I'm just a naive noob for believing that comments come under attack by 'real time' posters and not because of keywords. What I have noticed is that a poster from another 'camp' will 'ping' a group of fellow Freepers and then...the scorching begins.

What my thinking entails is: we have an enemy to our very existence, residing in the WH. And any opinion I post or have posted has that in mind and yet, I've been "attacked" by the, what I call the 'Pack Attack' mentality on Free Republic.

It has been absolutely astounding (and heartbreaking) to me that I've been "flamed" for pointing out the obvious about an individual, dead or alive,

Personally, I tend to look at things in 'black or white' values. That is to say that there is no gray in my processing.

So this Perry bashing causes me concern. Yes...there are things in his background that I've been concerned with however, after researching (extensively) most of my concerns are addressed (so far). But when recounting what I've seen or my opinion the ugliness begins and always includes disparaging remarks about me personally.

I'm sorry..I thought that we had a common enemy and that is someone who wishes to ENSLAVE all of us. So..I thought we would be weeding out candidates without 'attacking' those that have positive views about a candidate.

Palin is my choice...period. A Palin/Perry ticket is my "dream" ticket, but Palin hasn't announced (yet) so Perry is my choice. His positions on Israel, 2nd Amendment, Abortion, and the free market have been answered for me personally, yet when pointing those positions out, the pack attack surfaces.

But the most disconcerting thing is when I see "FReepers!" stating that they are going to 'sit' out the election if Perry is the nominee. WTF is up with that?

Perry may have some 'dings' in his record but for the love of God, to state that you refuse to vote for him, if he is the nominee' is treasonous. Again, imho.

If you don’t vote for the Republican nominee, all you’ll be saying is “Give Obama another 4 yrs”

I don't understand why you're so gung ho for Rick Perry.

That said, at least I expect Obama to sell me out and disappoint me. Better than getting my hopes up and getting a sneer and a middle finger at the end of the day from yet another in a long parade of RINOs.

It’s weak-minded to view education as indoctrination.

You are still avoiding the question of Islamic teaching to our children. Further your're avoiding addressing why Muslims are different then the Jews and Buddists neither of which are threatening to take our life ...nor do they have an agenda to take over our country and make it Sharia compliant. Dancing around these major differences is not going to make them go away. I am opposed to Islamic teaching in our schools and education systems.....we don't teach Christianity...nor any other religion in our school systems....there should therefore be no accomodation for Islamic teachings... which Perry has initiated in his staes schools.

"We don't need anymore "moderates" leading us." ...is right! We've been Rhinoed time and time again...no more. But some would prefer to see a slow painful death to our nation by voting for one. I will not regardless of the outcome.

I never thought on FR I'd be hearing the applause for another Rhino....Obama has set the bar so low doing any comparison between him and the candidates doesn't say much for the candidates. Rather people should be comparing those running, their qualifications, where they stand on the issues. etc. and just leave Obama out of the equation.

“I don’t understand why you’re so gung ho for Rick Perry.”

I wouldn’t say I’m “so gung ho”. But I think he’s going to be the one on the ballot and so far, for the most part, he seems like the best in the running.

Might he be a disappointment? Yes, he could.
Will Obama definitely be BAD for America, you betcha.

If you don’t see the difference, or understand yet what a danger Obama & his minions are, you might as well vote for Obama, because that’s what not voting at all or voting for someone else besides the Republican, will amount to.

Did you buy an amnesty now sign or badge that says I support the Dream Act in Spanish?

lol! Good one.

Aside from being an open-borders, Dream Act loving RINO, Perry proved he was a political opportunist when he became the only Republican governor to endorse pro-abortion Rudy Giuliani for president. Bear in mind that at the time of Perry’s endorsement of Giuliani there was a mass culling of Rudy supporters from FreeRepublic. Thus, logic dictates that Perry himself would not have been welcome here. Either his supporters have a very short memory or they just don’t care how liberal the man is. Conservatives should and do.

They can either:

You forgot option 4.

4. Write them off your wish list. If you can't win an election without the muslim vote, then, many others, including myself, will write you off, as a total loss.

Charm is not always my best feature either. And so far, my research is not turning up what I thought it would. I’ve been away from TX for 8 years, so I don’t know as much about him as I otherwise would. I try not to be a fool. Our next President needs to be strong and has a lot to undo. I like what I hear him saying, I just don’t want another one who says one thing and then does another.

Thanks for the apology, and I’m glad we’re on the same side. God Bless and let’s move forward and take back this great country! :) Maybe I’ll just fly my TX flag in my HOA and tick off a bunch of Palm Beach county liberals! :)

My son did a unit on various religions, Muslim, Hindu, and I don’t remember what else, when he was attending a Christian school.

That’s fine....and very different than inviting in “cair” instructors to give lessons on how to pray five times a day etc. and teach how to be Islamic....I would venture saying the instructors at the Christian school were not Islamic Muslims.

Many on FR have been studying Islam for quite sometime now....the infilitration into our country is happening exactly as their agenda has dictated for the United States to be “conquered thru Islam”...point by point... and out politicians are allowing it and fueling it by appeasement and allowing our laws to be used to permote it.

As soon as any stand against Islam...they are called bigoted and a host of other “politically correct” names. Racist and others comes to mind...and many are “afraid” to take a stand.....”Terrorism works”...it causes fear, and it doesn’t have to be at the edge of a knife either....as we see happening in our great country.
