I just committed myself 15 mins ago. My first round donation is done. Was always looking for the winnable conservative candidate with extensive executive experience. Between Romney and Perry, choice is clear. Only other possible entrant is Palin and she interested me as a reform minded GOP Governor who was a VP candidate. While she may enter the race and be more to the right of Perry, I am not looking for the "right most" candidate.
We certainly shouldn't try to emulate the tax policies, job creation and pro-business environment of Texas. What an awful idea.
That is the issue of the day, and if Perry can articulate it and battle Obama, our country is taking huge steps back in the right direction. A third party this time, is Obama through 2017. We will not survive as a nation.
Palin supported McCain, does that mean McCain is a conservative?
My position is Bush and all his little bots had some thinking he was a conservative, wrong.
Huckaberry also has some thinking he is a conservative, but he isn’t.
So before I drink the kool-aid I would like to check the flavors. I know who I do not want, haven’r decided who I do at this point. Romney was out before he was in, Newt is DOA after his global warming crap, Paul, well he doesn’t count....
(I don't tell them that the message reads, "I'm angry and I don't understand how our system of government works.")
Among liberals, there is no greater virtue for me than to encourage them to vote third party.
You the man! He’s going to make a fantastic president!!
It's amazing how many are looking for the golden grail of conservative purity.
"Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest." ..... Ecclesiastes 11:4 (New Living Translation, 2007)
Great post. No candidate is going to be perfect, but Perry can win and WILL represent conservatives.
Rick Perry is a Hard-Core Conservative
"Left" is on the left side of that graphic.
Compare Sarah Palin:
Sarah Palin is a Populist-leaning Conservative
Nobody is saying that Sarah Palin is "left of center".
Comrade? That's just precious. The polite question was "Is that all you've got?" If you can't answer it; fine. You don't need to get snippy. Insulting people as opposed to answering the question WILL get you four more years. I'm really not inclined to support the candidate whose supporters call me 'comrade'. Maybe you want four more years...
Nader 2012!
We do not need a third party, that is what ALL democrats want, so by suggesting that you just may be revealing to the rest of us what your agenda is....
We’ve (sadly!) lived out of TX for 8 years now, so I have not kept up with TX politics in that time, so I can’t account for it. He does have nice hair. :)
I WILL do a little more reading up on him, because I admit that what I don’t like about him is all from the past. Maybe he’s evolved. Strangely one of my libertarian friends (a Ron Paul supporter of all things) supports him as a second choice. This really floored me.
2 of my kids who are still in TX are very plugged in (they are over 30, not really *kids*) and I tend to trust their judgement. I’ll see what they have to say on the matter since I know they do keep up.
I would love to be pleasantly surprised, but I’m very leery. I’m tired of politicians being....well, politicians.
bump
I agree with you .. so who does that leave ? Perry is Pro-Gun, Pro-life , and a fiscal Conservative ...the Huckster was even attacking him if that helps matters
I just want to register my voice here, so come November 2012 I can tell you all “I told you so!”
Perry is exactly what this country does not need. He is too cozy with the globalist socialist Bushes, and that is ALL of them. Any Conservatism in the Bushes or their cronies is for show only. Who created the Unconstitutional TSA?!? Obama is worst because he is a communist!

Outstanding post...you are taking a stand for your personal beliefs, and I have great respect for that...
Not going 3rd party, but if not Palin, lets just say my enthusiasm for any of the current wannabes will be somewhat less than enthusiastic.
I see. So everyone here who wants a real Conservative Third Party is a Dem? Oh for Heaven’s sake.
I think YOUR agenda is to ensure that the Tea Party fails and that we just become lackeys of the GOP establishment. I believe you have outed yourself as a Tea Party destroyer.
I don’t know if that is true or not. But AT THE MOMENT, looking at the CURRENT ANNOUNCED CANDIDATES, it may be that Rick Perry is our best and only chance at stopping Romney.
The bad thing would be if Perry just splits conservative votes with Bachmann, and to a lesser extent Santorum and Cain, and then later Sarah Palin gets in and splits the conservative vote even further.
If Perry is a flash in the pan, it should show up in the polls; if Bachmann also fades like the anti-Bachmann people here keep telling us, that would leave a vacuum that Sarah Palin could fill, to beat Romney.
So the question is, will Perry and Bachmann both fade on their own? It’s hard to tell whether the attacks on them here aren’t just people who really want Palin and Only Palin, and realise that they need to discredit every other possible conservative candidate to clear the field.
There’s plenty of time for this to settle out; I just hope we don’t make the mistakes of 2008, and in search of the perfect conservative, we end up with another McCain-Type candidate.
Politicians are the necessary evil. The best of the lot anyways. Otherwise, you get to vote for Community Organizers. ;-)
