DETROIT (WXYZ) - It was a deadly night in the city of Detroit. From 6:00 am Friday, August 12th to 6:00 am Saturday, August 13th, a total of fifteen people were shot in the city. Six of those victims died at a total of 9 separate shooting scenes.
Mayor Dave Bing's office released the following statement:
"Reducing violent crime is our number one priority. Chief Godbee and the men and women of the Detroit Police Department are working around the clock to bring these criminals to justice. Our community must continue to work with us to stop this kind of violence. Every resident deserves to be safe and feel safe in their neighborhood."
The press must be incredibly frustrated they can’t simply point the finger at Bush anymore. And even though it was all unsubstantiated, the readers/viewers always bought it!
Journalism was so easy then, eh?
And still is in certain quarters although the murder numbers are down significantly from those other high numbers of years gone by. I was born and raised in that town and have some fond memories of that town. I no longer recognize it nor no longer call it home. Got out about 10 years ago and dread having to drive into that growing cess pool to go see my docs at the Houston VA hospital on occasion.
90 years ago Detroit was one of the wealthiest cities in the world. Three generations later, and one term of LBJ, and viola, something great has vanished into thin air.
Aren't all of the dirtbag cities run by RATs?
After growing up in Houston before people mellowed, it was weird to live in San Diego and see people use a chalk board to keep track of who’s turn it was to challenge at the pool table, rather than killing each other for it, or at least fist fighting for the next spot. People didn’t jump you in the bathrooms in San Diego, people didn’t wait to shoot you as you were leaving the bar. I only had to take a knife away from one guy here, and I have never even seen a gun pulled in a bar here in San Diego, much less shootings and killings.
Shoot.. 15 shot in the Motor City, that is a slow night in Chicago, another DemoRAT shooting gallery.
What do you expect from unemployable ebonics experts? They have other career objectives! Hows that go? High risk, high income?
Between people moving out and people getting killed, Detroit will be empty farmland and forest in a few years.
Workers paradise.
whatever happened to midnight basketball.
Somebody shot the ball.
Diversity: our greatest strength. Or so we are told. Relentlessly.
Yet will still manage to have thousands upon thousands of city employees serving virtually no one.
Liberals have absolutely destroyed Detroit, yet the (mostly black) population will dutifully vote Democratic till the last resident turns out the lights.
It's already possible to graze cattle or sheep from Grand Circus Park out to 8-mile. Sad .................... FRegards
I agree: wall it off and make a reality show. A true “Survivor.”
You could shave 30 years off that estimate easy -
But yes, LBJ has this blood on his hands.
The saddest TV viewing ever are the Detroit episodes of A&E’s The First 48. I think of all the Detroit murders on that series, maybe one was solved.
We’re trying to keep up with you here in Columbus. Our rockingest day so far this year was 10 shot, 4 dead.
Not to hijack the thread, but I am watching The First 48 S11E10 (trial of the Lester street killer) right now. It is absolutely riveting. Try and get a hold of it.
