aTm, FSU, Clemson and Missouri to the SEC as per ESPN

Posted on 08/13/2011 8:37:28 AM PDT by pburgh01

Can't be about politics all the time huh? Anyways semi political as the BCS system maybe coming to a swift end with the apparent formation of 4 super conferences and the Big-10, Pac-10 and the ACC\Big East look to consolidate and create a defacto playoff system.

Just reading an AP article, too:

One possible reason for Texas A&M’s renewed interest in leaving the Big 12 could be because the school isn’t happy about The Longhorn Network - created through a 20-year, $300 million deal with ESPN.

Texas hopes that Texas A&M remains in the Big 12.

‘’At this point we do not know if Texas A&M is leaving the Big 12,’’ Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds said in a statement. ‘’All we know is what we read and hear in the media. We are actively looking at every possible option we have and have been talking to other Big 12 schools. We are strong supporters and members of the Big 12. We’d be disappointed if Texas A&M leaves but, if they do, we wish them well.’’

Baylor also weighed in on the subject, with athletic director Ian McCaw issuing a statement that said Baylor is ‘’fully committed to the Big 12 Conference.’’

It is an honor to welcome FSU and Clemson into the SEC. Great teams and great fanbase!

ESPN/ABC and Texas will be the death of the Big 12. They have all the money and have felt free to throw their weight around. I hope the rest of the schools in the conference will find a better situation elsewhere, and that Texas and Baylor will be happy playing each other.

Off hand, do you know if all Big-12 schools have baseball programs?

Right now A&M is the only confirmed school, they will make their announcement on Monday. ESPN is ‘projecting’ the other schools for a reason, and it’s intended to protect their interest in the LHN, but it’s an epic fail. The SEC schools vote today on admitting A&M (although they all have formally agreed except Vandy), and A&M’s Board of Regents meet on Monday, and ESPN is trying to stir the pot a little to shake up A&M and the Texas Legislation to try and protect their investment. It’s not going to work. These people are shameless, and eventually ESPN is going to pay for it.

The more the big programs consolidate, the more the outliers like TCU and Boise State in football and Butler and VCU in basketball seem to rise to challenge the mega programmers.

When the SEC finally becomes man enough to play a December game in the cold, then can then talk about being elite.

And Clemson plays SEC teams every year anyway. SEC: Super Elite Conference. Time to renegotiate that TV contract! Wow. Curious how they will set up the divisions. War Eagle!

Thanks. I’m pretty sure Colorado didn’t/doesn’t either (Pac-12 now).

Perry’s an Aggie. And he needs the SEC states for his presidential run. He isn’t going to let the liberals at UT get in the way.

It is not the SEC’s fault the BCS keeps putting the National Championship game in the warmer climate states.

Mizzu??? WTF....

UT really effed up...they (Big 12) should’ve gone and grabbed TCU and either SMU or BYU once CU and NU left the conference- now they are really in a watered down league and the PAC Ten is done expanding...

as a college football fanatic all my life and someone in the football business i HATE these super conferences...

And how many Yankee teams dare come play in the Swamp - or Baton Rouge, or Tuscaloosa, or Knoxville in September? The Swamp in Gainesville has triple digit temperatures on the field.
