The Great Deflation
The Wall Street Journal/Best of the Web ^ | 8/13/2011 | James Taranto

Posted on 08/13/2011 7:25:35 AM PDT by Lakeshark

You've heard it before, but it's worth repeating as a reminder of just how puffed-up Barack Obama got back in 2008:

I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on earth. This was the moment--this was the time--when we came together to remake this great nation so that it may always reflect our very best selves and our highest ideals.
--snip--
Yesterday the president gave a speech in Holland, Mich. Get a load of the headlines it generated:

• New York Times: "Obama Urges Voters to Scold Republicans"

• Associated Press: "Obama: Something Is Wrong With Country's Politics"

• Los Angeles Times: "Obama to GOP: Put Country Before Party"

• CNN: "President Obama: 'I'm Frustrated' "

• Washington Post: "Obama to America: You Must Pressure Congress to Pivot to Jobs"

• The Hill: "Obama Grasps for Anti-Washington Anger"

Like a leaky balloon, Barack Obama keeps getting smaller. "The president is declaring to the world that he is simply too weak to govern," Peter Wehner observes. "Not only that, he wants all of America to know that he's darn frustrated about it. You can even hear it in his voice." That last comment isn't Wehner's evaluation but a paraphrase of the president's own words: "Maybe you hear it in my voice--that's why I'm frustrated. Because you deserve better."

It would be interesting to hear what Harry “The Buck Stops Here” Truman would say about this pouting whiner. I’m sure he’d have some choice words that wouldn’t be fit to print.

In tough times, Americans in general will want a strong, male image for a leader. Since Obama created a bad taste for black male leaders, the next POTUS will most likely be a strong, white male. Any white male GOP will pummel Obama. Strong female or Cain will also win, but closer margin. Now there are other psych thinkers who look at the Argentine model, where a strong female representing restoration and purification of social values may attract voters to vote for a strong white female. I tend to lean white male POTUS because unlike Argentine women, enough American women have hangups with Palin and Bachman while American men voters do not. Just my 2 cents.

I have the same gut feeling, and that is why I think Rick Perry has the best chance of overcoming this regime.

Maybe he’ll declare today.

I stayed in the stock market at end of week expecting as “Rick Perry” surge on Monday.

Any little prick will take the air out of this lightweight-socialist, bubble-headed, little-prick, con-man.

I'm finding it interesting that a portion of democrats are finally dealing with buyer's remorse. Steve Wynn from Nevada is a great example.

What a joke this guy is......

Last week, Obama and his party were calling us “terrorists” and “hostage-takers’ and now he asks for civility?

Mr President, you have not EARNED our civility!

(but, then again, you have not earned very much in your whole life, have you?)

This is the first example of a democrat pol who was actually worse than I expected.

And I really thought he was going to be bad.

The man has got to be voted out, he's simply not fit to be a leader of anything.

send him back to community organizing.......

I will back a Perry candidacy. He shares the same weakness as GWB. His wife is TexMex and will be vulnerable to her influence on illegal immigration. Wives do that to leaders, like it or not. I do like the fact he served in the military and did not deferr or found a way to hide in the National Guard (a favorite place the rich and powerful send their kids to during the Vietnam draft). Being a former Dem is not a detraction because he can provide a strong testimonial to blue collar Dems why he left and what is wrong with the Dems. Finally being a gov of TX a large booming state with low unemployment is his strongest narrative why he is more qualify to be POTUS. I hope he will not make the same mistake as GWB who assume the US Congress and Senate is like the TX legislature (where Dems and GOP get along to make deals). Dems in Wash DC must be dealt with harshly in order to get things done. Otherwise his programs will be bottled up, no progress on growth policies and the MSM will pound him into a one term presidency as the economy stagnates.

I think it’s an advantage that his wife is Tex-Mex.

However, my heart’s still with Cain.

He may be another George Bush - but at least he has recent history showing the results of the mistakes made by George Bush, and will learn from them

and he won't have Karl Rove, who I have come to see as an idiot

I for one, despite the failings of George Bush (the biggest being a noble gentility toward radical liberalism and silence about the national security risk of the manufactured-identity obama) would take back George Bush today over what what we have, and think the nation better off and safer

"I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began ..."

... to realize how utterly bankrupt the ideas of Liberalism really were. Everything they claimed to believe and claimed to be able to do was shown to be a lie. And, really, we have Obama to thank for that.

Maybe younger women have a problem with being jealous of Palin. But it is a little-known fact that the average T-partier is not some snaggle-tooth redneck man, but rather a middle-aged woman with nearly-grown kids, probably some college and work experience.

We know a leader when we see one. We've known a lot of women leaders in our own communities and churches. Frankly, women already run most things because the men are opting out. I'm tired of eager-to-please men like Pawlenty and Romney. Sarah's my first choice.

“Since Obama created a bad taste for black male leaders,...”

I hope you’re wrong about that; for me and people I associate with that is definitely not the case. We see the Kenyan as a hater of America, not as a black man. But then again we’re only a handful of Americans.
