FREEMANSBURG, Pa. (AP) -- Authorities say a police officer slain while responding to a domestic disturbance in a small eastern Pennsylvania borough had pointed a stun gun at two dogs before being shot.

The Morning Call of Allentown reports Freemansburg police Officer Robert Lasso had pointed at the attacking dogs when the homeowner pulled out a shotgun and fired the fatal blast Thursday evening.

There are such people ~ they imagine that if they are "in the right" (as they see it) then it's OK to shoot a cop, a little kid, somebody's pet that just happens to be on their lawn or front porch.

I wish all you cop-haters here would read the local press who actually reported the story. The perp was a doper bully who had prior run-ins with police and neighbors. The officer was doing his job, and leaves behind a widow and two kids, ages five and three.

Go up to the funeral home in Lehigh County tell the widow and kids about how they’d shoot their dad too if he came to your house.

If it was my wife, she’d drop you where you stood.

This was bound to happen and will happen more if police officers don’t change their “rules of engagement.”

If I were on the jury and it was proven by the defense that the cop was fixing to shoot the guy’s pets or harm anyone on the premsis...jury nullification. It has to stop.

Reform is needed and needed now. Policing has to fit constitutional restraints and common sense. They don’t get to kill nor brutalize everyone and everything upon their whim and excuse.

Or in other words, the dog owner didn’t take kindly to someone threatening the lives of his dogs while on his property...

Now imagine if some stranger pulled a gun on your daughter... and you had a shotgun.

Ain’t nothin’ different between the two. Dogs are part of the family (cats, birds, etc... too, but for some reason are less targeted).

The problem with domestic violence laws is that anyone can call one in and the cops are taking the man away. There has been an ongoing fight to get the federal domestic violence law (can't remember exact name right now) repealed because it is a violation of due process for men. My brother in law dealt with it in SC. His wife called in a threat and the po-po came and took him away. He claimed the entire time that nothing happened. Didn't matter, the call was made, and they had to take him in. Turns out that the apartment complex security cams caught the whole thing, including her pushing him and him doing NOTHING in return. It also showed the cops taking him off in cuffs while he denied harming his wife. Of course all charges were dropped, and he never received an apology from the po-po. Just doin’ their jobs, ya know.
