1) Newt: Winner. As usual, smartest guy in the room. Smackdown of Chrissy was a homerun. Seemed like the only adult on the stage. Remember, the election is 15 months away. We need leadership now! If hes the nominee, he will kick Obummers tail. Unfortunately his baggage dooms his chances.
2) Mitt: As usual, came across as phony, opportunistic, and just way too slick. Might be the only one on stage that would actually Lose to Obummer.
3) Bachmann: Letting herself get bogged down into the muck with Timmy was unbecoming. Should have smacked down that weasel who asked her the submissive to your husband question. Solidly conservative but decidedly unpresidential. Love her, but she cant win.
4) Santorum: Found his footing with 10th amendment run amuck (when they finally let him speak). Also solidly convincing abortion stance. Did well but cant win. Most people dont even know who he is.
5) Paul: Entertaining and at times compelling, but naïve on foreign policy. And his supporters are annoying.
6) Cain: Another great candidate. But lets face it: He cant win.
7) Hunstman: Good guy with zero chance of winning.
8) Pawlenty: Best line of the night. If anyone can tell me Obamas plan, Ill come mow your lawn. Unless its Mitt then I will limit to one acre. However, other than that, he failed. Looked desperate in dissing Bachmann. Hes toast. Buh-bye, Timmy.
9) Fox News Panel. A total embarrassment.
So who does that leave us with?
Palin? Not running.
Christie? Not running.
Perry? Yes. The winner of the debate last night was soon-to-be President Rick Perry.
I too was surprised with the asskicking that Gingrich delivered.
People also need to learn that the “deathbed divorce” rumor proliferated by the media was a complete lie and his ex-wife *GASP* is still alive.
Sad state!
I guess I didn’t need to see the debate, because I forgot about it, and didn’t see a reminder of FR. Doesn’t mean there wasn’t one, I just didn’t see one.
Newt doesnt look good either, chubby and wrinkled as well having a not so great resume.
He was always good at throwing out zingers, not so good on defense. Did the Ryan medicare plan subject come up?
Now, having said that about Gingrich, I will turn about and say that we hurt ourselves if we look at all of our best candidates and say "He/She can't win".
Bachmann, Cain and Santorum may seem unlikely but I don't care. I'm watching each with interest.
But I fully expect to vote for Palin.
Everybody expected Newt to do well but the problem is that we all know he’s still a slimy amphibian who will never be president no matter how much practice he has.
But she needs to get into the fray pretty soon.
Loved Gingrich’s performance. Thought Chris Wallace’s whiny comeback was pitiful. Good that he broke it off quickly.
Bachman did not impress me. I had not really seen much of her before, but her remarks sounded like Tina Fey’s maverick speach. I’m a fighter, yada yada, I’m a leader, yada yada, but no substance.
I’m waiting for Palin to get in. Hoping she took lessons in sentence structure in the meantime, because if she did, she is unbeatable.
What about Gingrich as VP? Only bad thing is he is too old to run for Pres. after two terms of Palin.
Yep, I agree.
You know, I love Newt. He is inspiring and has no problem setting the media on the edge with their BS. And his smarts and historical lessons and love of this country is so good to see in this time when Obamajaad displays his hatred for it. I never followed his supposed baggage. But there’s just one teenie little thing that just won’t allow me to trust him. He’s still carrying the water of that fake Clinton surplus when it was nothing more or less than an accounting maneuver that ran up more public debt by raiding social security and other public trusts.
And as much as I love Ron Paul’s stance on the Federal Reserve and believe we need to destroy that BEAST, he would wind up getting us all killed. And then we’d still be living in a society of WHATEVER you want, let ‘er rip.
Yep, Pawlenty killed himself. That attack was completely unnecessary, and tho he had a tiny point in it, it really looked childish.
please stay in race:
1. Newt. (even though a flawed candidate for personal morality issues, hope he stays in race to sharpen other candidates, by far best answers of night)
2. Santorum. (Great answers solid candidate through - needs to show more command and not so much frustration over media time)
3. Cain (could add some quotes/statistics related to competing for capital investment when talking about 0% capital gains rate)
4. Bachmann (needs to stay above the fray and avoid TPaw, needs to loosen up a bit and avoid being robotic, could add some interesting quotes (i.e. Newt/Santorum) and avoid repeating self)
please drop out now:
5. Huntsman (absolutely nothing fresh, totally boring, did nothing, pat answers)
6. Romney (Completely flawed candidate based record in Masspro-abortion, severely overreaching government, tone is arrogant, speaks out of two sdies of his mouth/contradicts himself, pat answers, health care answer was absolutely horrible )
7. Paul comes across as a crazy, gouchy, grandpa. Some of his ideas strike a cord w/ libertarian crowd, but he misses the boat......( i.e. one could say that we should work hard to avoid foreign entanglements, while still acknowledging the Iranian threat, would be so much better)
8. Pawlenty (Tone is completely wrong, going after Bachmann showed he is a complete ***. Hes done.)
9. Fox News Moderators. stupid snear-ky dumb questions. Absolutely horrible. The founding fathers would be appalled at the stupid sound-bite politics. The media should promote real statesmanship and scholarship....
Palin and Perry easily get into top group if/when jump in....
FYI..semi-related factoid..channel surfing this morning..took a peek at MSNBC’s morning show, with Chuck Todd...it was live, in Ames...and guess who just happened to be in the area, and dropped by for a chat...David Axelrod..Obama’s campaign head..to give his “spin”..ya think they’re NOT worried..??
As forest would say, stupid is as stupid does, that applies to you silly vanity thoughts.
I am a staunch Perry and Palin supporter as all here should know by now. But, I would still like to know how both stand on immigration.
I know there are some immigration problems with Perry, but I think he will do better after he is in office where he has more power. He knows what the problems are in Texas but he’s limited to what he can do without being ram-rodded by the regime.
So we might as well bring this to surface now because it looks like Perry is likely to be the leader in the race unless Palin gets in. I hope she does.
It could be a Perry-President, Palin- VP run. Or visa-versa.
Interesting analysis! I would have to say it mirrors my thoughts exactly, all except for the claim that Newt won.
Newt is a non starter. Just that simple. The winner is Perry as you projected. The electorate is now desperate and Perry will be even more welcome and in demand when he enters on Saturday.
Be brave, and try not to look hurt, when she announces her bid for the nomination next month.
Perhaps. Granted, the Fox News Republican presidential debate demonstrated the weaknesses of each candidate as well as their strengths. None seem to have the right combination (of policy positions as well as charisma) to defeat Obama and begin to turn our economy around as well as re-establish Americas position as the undisputed leader in world affairs. However, there is plenty of time for Sarah Palin to announce her candidacy. Ronald Reagan waited until November, 1979 (for the November, 1980 election). Chris Christie is not on my radar due to his liberal stance on issues other than economics. Christie has publicly stated that he has no interest in seeking the presidency. I believe him, although he could change his mind at any juncture - but I don't see him leaning that way. Speaking of baggage, America hasn't had a president as hefty as Governor Christie since William Howard Taft (335 pounds at his top weight) and I don't think we'll see another one anytime soon. As for Texas Governor Rick Perry, I live 2600 miles from Texas and don't know that much about Rick Perry. I read a few things that are encouraging - and a few that weren't. He is too 'unknown' at this point for most voters to declare him as the GOP candidate and the winner of the election for president. He may well be, but for the moment, I'm sticking with Sarah Palin.
She has been vetted by the media - no scandals or big surprises are coming and she has, to date, played the liberal media well and remained relevant while not holding any electoral office. Yes, she has 'baggage', mostly media-imposed, but she also has solid conservative values on all fronts; political and cultural, in both domestic and foreign policy areas. Sarah Palin also has that elusive and sought-after quality: charisma, a valuable attribute for a presidential candidate. I believe she can surmount her 'negatives' by the public seeing her without the media filter that always portrays Palin as stupid and dangerous, much as they vilified Ronald Reagan when he campaigned for the presidency back in 1979. He won, big-time, because the country needed and wanted a leader, someone who could promise (and deliver) a 'better' America. Obviously, some conservatives will disagree. So be it. This is just an opinion. However, should Palin not choose to run (possible), Texas Governor Rick Perry could well end up being the conservative candidate. I'm far from ready to make that assessment today but I'm willing to give Perry a chance to prove himself if he chooses to run. Considering what we saw Thursday night in the Fox News Republican candidates debate, I now hope Perry does run just to give conservatives another option.
1. Newt...if only. Smart, articulate, always on his toes, near photographic memory, damaged.
2. Santorum. He’s the only one that gave me the “I’m watching my President puttin’ it to ‘em” feeling.
3. Herman. I just know that if he were President, we wouldn’t have 9+ unemployment...and our credit would still be tops.
Bachman-didn’t seem to hold up well, Paul-was ranting, as usual. Pawlenty-left me blah, and I don’t like it when he uses an attack on another as a way of proving his greatness. Huntsman-reminds me of Mitt’s Cousin. Mitt-I couldn’t stand him last time, and he’s only gotten worse.
Also rans that didn’t...Perry-my memory isn’t short enough to move him into consideration, maybe my memory will fade as we move along the process.
Palin-oh, from our lips to God’s ears! If only she comes out swinging at her detractors, and articulates clear, concise, actionable programs and policies that would upright our Nation, no more Ms. Goodie-two-shoes-turn-to-the-other-cheek-and-smile-as-she-raise-her-vocal-octave-but-not-her-emotion. (when she does that, I’m always expecting to her add...”well, bless your little heart” with a snide smile. But she doesn’t give me even that! LOL)
I’M STILL WAITIN’ FOR THE DARK HORSE. Who might that be?
