Gov. Rick Perry hammered Washington Wednesday and bragged about Texas' economic growth ... at a gathering of state legislators from all over the country.
"Over the last two years, 40 percent of the jobs created in the United States were in this state," he said. "These numbers represent more than just statistics. They are about a way of life, about a quality of life."
"You can't tax your way to prosperity," he said while blasting President Barack Obamaâs administration and the stimulus package.
"Until Washington figures out that the only true stimulus is more money in the hands of employers across all economic sectors, our national nightmare will continue," he said.
The job-creation theme is helping Perry position himself well against Obama, said Jones, chairman of the political science department at Rice University in Houston.

“You can’t tax your way to prosperity”
I think Ronald Reagan or Milton Friedman said that. Perry is off to a good start if he stays with this theme.
hmmmm
He’s my top pick at this point. He’ll need to convince average Americans (idiots) that he isn’t GWB, but that’s his only big liability that I can see. As long as he can address that, he’s got a good shot.
Is he running on the libertarian ticket? You want amnesty? I don’t.
Someone is getting ready to say something, it just takes time.
Perry with his record of job creation will be a huge contrast to Obama.

So, Perry created those jobs, not Texas industry?
Obama wants amnesty. Guess what stands between him and Amnesty.
We need to increase our majority in the House and we need to win the Senate with Tea Party candidates. The more we win in Congress, the further away Amnesty gets.
"President Fox's vision for an open border is a vision I embrace" ~Gov. Rick Perry

The debate tonight did look kind of wimpy, except for a very few moments.
(I kept waiting for Herman Cain to speak as he does on the radio. I like the radio Herman Cain and have been disappointed in the candidate.)
Texas industry created those jobs. Perry and the TX leg. stayed out of their way, thereby fostering job-creating conditions.
BTW, for years I always said that presidents had little to do with job creation, but in Obama’s case, I am convinced that business owners recognize that he is a cancer, and are purposefully NOT hiring so that they can get rid of his ass.
He is dooming himself with his anti-business policies.
"President Foxs vision for an open border is a vision I embrace, as long as we demonstrate the will to address the obstacles to it. An open border means poverty has given way to opportunity, and Mexicos citizens do not feel compelled to cross the border to find that opportunity. It means we have addressed pollution concerns, made substantial progress in stopping the spread of disease, and rid our crossings of illicit drug smuggling activity. Clearly we have a long way to go in addressing those issues."
The debate tonight was strange and unpleasant, like somehow all of the candidates were a little pissed and off their game. I think Perry it probably buying a round for whatever group of aides advised him to skip it.
Call if more fair if you’d like. It doesn’t change its meaning.
I see you've spent the past month or so bashing Ron Paul and Rick Perry. Are you actually supporting anyone or just enjoy throwing salt in everyone else's game?
