PACIFICA -- A pregnant Pacifica woman was found dead by her husband today after an apparent attack by a family pit bull, police said.

The 32-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was killed in her home on the 500 block of Reina del Mar, said Capt. Dave Bertini, a Pacifica police spokesman.

The woman's husband told police that he had arrived home from work around noon and found one of the couple's two pit bulls standing over his wife's body. He was able to get the dog into the backyard before police arrived a few moments later.

Attempts to revive the woman were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

While the investigation was under way, Bertini said, the dog got loose from the yard and charged at officers who were stationed outside. They fired three shots at the pit bull, killing it.

I’ve had pound dogs before, mutts all, and they were great. I wouldn’t take a rescue pit, though.

Sorry, maybe I should have said 'the statistics that truthguy quotes.'

Your assertion that they are from a reputable source makes me smile, so I'll let it go.

If someone says 'I detest tire irons, because you could murder someone with one', how is it unreasonable to point out that statistically speaking, there's a much greater chance of dieing in a car accident than being murdered with a tire iron?

This is my sweet baby. She needs to run but I can't take her to the local dog park because vermin bring their landsharks, I mean pit bulls. I hate pit bulls.

All I see in my head when I think about that dog park is my sweet Gracie being torn apart by some moron's pit.

It’s awful to be in that situation. There are people in this world like it or not that do not care about rules. I would never let a dog of mine out of sight and not controlled. They think they know better and are smarter than the rest or they are just plain evil or stupid.

Getting the facts out there and really doing something about it would help. They need to take these breeders and or owners that breed just to breed down. Breeding aggression into the breed is not good. A lot of breeds have been messed up today not just aggression; but because of the macho macho image that goes with it. The people are really dumber than door nails and they most likely don’t respect anything much less themselves. It’s sad so many people care only about image.

It’s not the breed; it’s the people that breed aggression into the breed. They need to be taken down.

Apples VS oranges

Being torn apart has to be the worst death besides burning.

They should stop these people that are breeding the aggression. So many breeds are being ruined; not because of aggression necessarily; but bad breeders and I am not just talking about regular breeders; I am talking about one timers and people who don’t know what the hell they are doing and disrespect the animals.

I am not saying all breeders are bad; it’s the bad apples that make this happen. You clamp down on them and you will have some results.

Every single day, every single person eats.

Not every person has a PBT nor do they see 1 even in a great while.

Hence the big difference in mere NUMBERS of incidents.

Hmm...was this a dog attack, or a murder staged to look like one?

Both possibilities should be investigated. Particularly if the husband and wife didn’t get along.

If the dog is at fault, put down the dog.

If the husband is at fault, then give him the death penalty.

I have heard that there are some bad strains in the Springer Spaniel breed, glad you have a good one.

In my neck of the woods if they have a Pit Bull they are drug dealers or a user of drugs 95% of the time. If only I could have the same odds in Las Vegas.

My 3 dogs and I have been attacked but my city cops says I cant shoot one even with a Concealed Carry Permit. He says I should carry mace or pepper spray to prevent a lot of legal hassles.

So I have compromised and now I carry a neck knife and another knife in my right pocket.

I will kill the next dog that attacks me or my dogs when mine are on a leash, properly licensed and under control. I dont care if its is a pit bull or a cherished family pet that wouldnt hurt a flea. I will kill them and then sue the pants off of the uncaring owner that allowed them to roam free to begin with.

I am done with “STUPID RETARDS” who own dogs who shouldnt even be allowed to breed with another human let alone have a vicious dog like a pit bull.

You want to be a “BADASS” person then go to the gym and pump some iron and stop having a dog do the dirty work for you COWARDS!

Hey truthguy, I 100% agree with your asssesment!

I grew up with these dogs and saw them kill - yes kill many other dogs. Not proud of it, it was a “family thing”. If you’ve seen a dog that was bred to fight bears, boars, and other dogs kill another dog by grabbing its neck in its teeth and swinging it in the air, it doesn’t take much imagination to know what that looks like with a child or woman. The problem with pits is 1) they are powerful so an attack is more likely to be fatal, 2) they were bred to kill so relish it once they’ve been taught or tasted it.

Anyone who thinks animals can’t have behavior bred into them is in denial or totally misinformed. It’s not about “nurture”, it’s nature, i.e. genetic. Just witness the studies of wolves, which all dogs come from. A wolf can never be made to behave like a dog, even though it has 99.99% of a dogs genes. The dog genetically evolved over thousands of years to have a symbiotic relationship with man. Some fools made the mistake of creating a breed of dog specifically for the sport of killing. Now a bunch of idiots have anthropomorphic illusions that rightly identifying pit bulls as genetically dangerous is like human racism. The scientists can’t say these things around laymen without losing their jobs or credibility, but they certainly know the truth, if they aren’t also in denial.

Well if we’re going to get all nitpicky about statistical relevancy, I would suggest that some of those ‘pitbulls’ identified by dogsbite.org are probably boxers, labradors, bull dogs and mixes, shrinking the probability of being attacked by a pitt/rottie even further... :-)

The pit bull lovers are sort of a strange lot, I dated a woman down in Manhattan Beach who had one. He was aggressive and always nipped at me and fought other dogs unless

I liken pit bulls to the Democrats. There may be one or two Heath Schuler’s, but the 99% of them consist of the Kerry's, Kennedy's, Pelosi’s, Waters’ and Durbin’s...

The issue with pit bulls is they are ferocious and because of their temperment, are embraced by thugs and gangsters to use as protection. Do the Latino gangs fight hound dogs, Labradors or cocker spaniels? No, they fight pit bulls. They fight to the death with no feelings of pain, their jaws are designed, like a shark, to kill and maim.

My Labrador is protective, but to liken her to a pit bull is like comparing a largemouth bass to a hammerhead shark. Yes, there are aggressive breeds and moronic owners, but the pit bull has a documented violent and deadly past.

Your spurious nonsensical arguments about causes of death via choking and pit bull attacks are one obvious head fake; you can chew your carrots more and learn the Heimlich Maneuver, but when you take you child/parent/spouse/dogs out on a walk and see a dangerous dog on/off leash, you need to worry about safety.

Just for kicks...I ran a search on Google on “pit bull attacks” and there are 3.36 million results.

This is a statement directly from the CDC which you can find on their website with very little effort. There is also plenty of politically correct nonsense there that will make you happy...because they have to accommodate people with illusions like yourself. But the numbers and what I’ve observed with my own two eyes don’t lie.

http://www.cdc.gov/homeandrecreationalsafety/dog-bites/dogbite-factsheet.html

Results—During 1997 and 1998, at least 27 people died of dog bite attacks (18 in 1997 and 9 in 1998). At least 25 breeds of dogs have been involved in 238 human DBRF during the past 20 years. Pit bull-type dogs and Rottweilers were involved in more than half of these deaths. Of 227 reports with relevant data, 55 (24%) human deaths involved unrestrained dogs off their owners’ property, 133 (58%) involved unrestrained dogs on their owners’ property, 38 (17%) involved restrained dogs on their owners’ property, and 1 (< 1%) involved a restrained dog off its owner’s property.
