Polar bears drowning in an Alaskan sea because the ice packs are meltingits the iconic image of the global warming debate.
But the validity of the science behind the imagepresented as an ignoble testament to our environment in peril by Al Gore in his film An Inconvenient Truthis now part of a federal investigation that has the environmental community on edge.
Special agents from the Interior Departments inspector general's office are questioning the two government scientists about the paper they wrote on drowned polar bears, suggesting mistakes were made in the math and as to how the bears actually died, and the department is eyeing another study currently underway on bear populations.
Biologist Charles Monnett, the lead scientist on the paper, was placed on administrative leave July 18. Fellow biologist Jeffrey Gleason, who also contributed to the study, is being questioned, but has not been suspended.
[snip] It galvanized the environmental movement that led to the bears controversial listing in 2008 as threatened, and it is now protected under the Endangered Species Act.

Bump & Ping
A couple of observations:
When Al mentioned pseudo-scientists, one can only presume he meant the polar bear fraudsters.
Also, it is nice to get periodic confirmation of what many of us have thought for some time: Al Gore is as crazy as a s—t house rat.
In the green never-neverland of Algore and the other idiots, top of the food chain predators would never die, but for the greenhouse emissions generated mostly by Republicans. And what is likely the most common cause of death for polar bears? Traffic accidents? Sirosis of the liver? Certainly never starvation, given as to how easy food is to come by for an animal that has to hunt it down and kill it. /sarc
I see a couple of biologists being sacrificed in the place of the very important politician called The Algore!
I say SACRIFICE THEM ALL!
While in the water they paddle with their front feet, and use the hind feet as rudders. They can swim at a speeds of 4-6 mph and paddle non-stop for 100 miles. Have been seen swimming several hundred miles from the nearest ice or land. While swimming, they keep their eyes open, their nostrils shut and their ears flattened to their heads. Polar bears can stay under up to 2 minutes. They are also capable of leaping out of the water 7'-8' feet from a swimming start. They have been seen catching seals that way.

These things can swim for a hundred miles and have been seen swimming hundreds of miles from shore. How do they drown?
“These things can swim for a hundred miles and have been seen swimming hundreds of miles from shore. How do they drown?”
Severe storm?
What do you want to bet the study is debunked, but the regulation based on the debunked study remains?
“Polar bears are efficient swimmers, for such large animals.”

You are right.
One can learn everything they ever wanted to know about
polar bears by just a few simple internet searches,
provided that you do not land on some kooky AGW scare site.
There are official commission or government sites.
For example, their vast swimming distances, and other interesting information about polar bear conservation.
I learned that most all arctic countries have polar bear commissions that establish harvesting rates.
Yes, there is overpopulation of the bears in various areas.
What??! Dick Obama's Interior Department?? Going after the polar bear scammers? Naw. Can't be happening. Next thing we'll hear is that Dick is joining the Tea Party.
My thoughts are the same. I’ll add one more thought. The scientists involved will get transfered & promoted like the crooked lynx hair biologists.
Hope that Penguin can run.....LOL
Forgive me, but they are not scientists - they are religious fanatics.
Well, all I can say is, those 4 polar bears had mothers much like some on our welfare rolls. I guess the guvmunt
needs to set up a “baby swimming” class for baby polar bears so this drownding won’t happen with the next birthing season.
