Tom Tancredo: Rick Perry not a true conservative
Politico ^ | 08/11/2011 | Tom Tancredo

On Saturday Texas Gov. Rick Perry is expected to announce whether or not he will run for president. Many now believe he will.

Perry is eager to separate himself from his predecessor in the Texas governor’s mansion, George W. Bush — who is unpopular with both tea party Republicans and the American electorate as a whole. But one area where Perry’s positions are virtually identical to Bush is immigration.

When I ran for president in 2008, I tried to pressure the Republican candidates to take a hard line against illegal immigration. For this, Perry called me a racist.

When he first took office as governor in 2001, Perry went to Mexico and bragged about his law that granted “the children of undocumented workers” special in-state tuition at Texas colleges, the first state in the nation to do so.

“The message is simple,” Perry concluded, “educacion es el futuro, y si se puede.” Education is the future, and (echoing Cesar Chavez’s slogan) yes we can.]

Just a few weeks ago, Perry defended his decision to give in-state tuition to illegal immigrants. He said “to punish these young Texans for their parents’ actions is not what America has always been about.”

Perry opposed Arizona’s tough anti-illegal immigration law SB 1070. “I have concerns,” he explained, “with portions of the law passed in Arizona and believe it would not be the right direction for Texas.”

He spoke out last year against using E-Verify to prevent illegal immigrants from getting jobs as state employees, who get their paychecks from the taxpayers. He insisted it “would not make a hill of beans’ difference.”

Numbers USA, a group that supports immigration control, gives Perry a “D-“ for his positions supporting amnesty, open borders, and opposing border security.

RE :”The law only allows for in state tuition. It does not change the qualifications for State aide or for citizenship. The restrictions are higher for the children of illegal aliens than they are for children of parents who live in other States.

Illegals have no business going to state college let alone getting a tuition discount that other legal Americans (citizens and green cards) do not get. In fact that is against Federal law,

This kind of crap is how you tell you have an amnesty RINO on your hands.

The last one really helped Democrats in 2007.

ROFLOL, cuts in two years, LOL, sound like real rino stuff there, I guess that is in the projected growth estimates and not the real spending. Two different time that is funny.

” Perry is a rino, compassionate, conservative/liberal. There is not one issue he has not been on all sides of. That is except spending and he has aways supported the hell out of growing government and spending. His friend Vincenty Fox really likes the free education for illegals. “

'in state' tuition regs are a real open window into this socialist mindset...

if a white kid from Ky cant pay texan or maryland rates to goto school, how can a brown kid from tijuana get the deal ???

pure pandering and vote buying, nothing more, nothing less...

politics were never meant to be a career...

You think I was trying to be funny? It's far to true to be funny, in fact it's so true that it's sad really.

PICTURED WITH PERRY: Some of Perry's choices for WH jobs?

2005 Houston Chronicle pic depicting Perry sucking up to Obama's strongarm and voter fraud facilitators--ACORN.
Perry is depicted as an advocate for "affordable housing," and "lending law reform" (read sub-prime defaults).

===========================================

I guess back then Perry knew all about the$e (/snix):

<><> Dept of Housing and Urban Development: $8.2 million between 2003 and 2006; $1.6 million to ACORN affiliates.

<><> EPA $100,000 grant to ACORN in 2004 for a Louisiana Justice Project, which removed lead from the homes of low income families.

<><> Justice Dept grant in 2005 for a juvenile delinquency program.

===================================

According to later research, 40% of ACORN's operations were found to be funded through numerous grants it receives from various governmental entities. ACORN also receives funding from a variety of tax-exempt private charitable organizations: the Bauman Family Foundation, George Soros' Open Society Institute, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and from corporate foundations, including JP Morgan Chase Foundation, Ben & Jerry's foundation, Bank of America Charitable Foundation, and Citigroup, as well as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and tax-exempt foundations affiliated with the founder of UPS.

=======================================

Senate Finance Committee Study (led by Sen Charles Grassley)

ACORN comprises a mind-boggling 94 different affiliates, that amounts to "a big shell game," a biting Senate Finance Committee study shows.

The study, by the staff of Sen Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), reveals four ACORN charity groups give more than half their revenue to taxable entities that engage in "impermissible lobbying and political activity."

ACORN and it’s subsidiaries for decades have moved taxpayer money into their own pockets and into the left-wing Marxist machine.

Sen Charles Grassley's documents show leaders of ACORN community groups transferred several million dollars in charitable and government money-----meant for the poor---- to parts of the group that have political (and sometimes profit-making) missions.

Sen Grassley's documents indicate that ACORN's tax-exempt groups----along with its tangled web of allied organizations---- used more than half their charitable and public money in 2006 to pay other ACORN affiliates.

ACORN also appears to have been involved in improper use of pension funds ..... some of the founder Rathke's embezzlement was apparently taken from the pension fund using ACORN's American Express card.

This displacement of funding led to the creation of a complex repayment system in which accused embezzler Dale Rathke owed ACORN, and ACORN in turn, owed ABA, which, for its part, wrote off part of the money. (Excerpt) Read more at spectator.org ........

Haven’t listened to Bennett in a while, though I’m not surprised to hear he’s talking Perry up. Regardless of whether you support Perry or not, he does have the support of, and is being promoted by the Republican establishment, and Bennett is an establishment guy.

Perry is still better than Obama.
Hell, Bill Clinton was better than Obama.
Even Romney might be better than Obama (though I have my doubts...).
Don’t like Perry? Beat him in the Primary. Give money to the better candidate(s) (such as Bachman or Cain).
If he still wins the Primary, think twice before rejecting for being a RINO. I’m not sure how much more Obama this country can take.

RE :”There is in-State tuition - not free - for a segment of the children of illegal aliens who are brought here as minors, maintain good character, attend 3 years of high school, earn a diploma, live in the State for the 12 months prior to the first semester in college, and who are admitted to college.

You miss the point:

1) We are talking specifically about illegal aliens not (all) children of illegal aliens.
2) THEY CANT LEGALLY WORK HERE. THEY DONT NEED TO GO TO COLLEGE let alone get this tuition break that many legal residents and citizens cant get, which is against Federal Law to give them.

However, the people of Texas have decided that they can apply for college, stay here legally, and pay in-state tuition.

"Fraud"? I posted his EO. Look it up for yourself.

Speaking of looking stuff up, I just looked up 'astroturf' and found you as an example.

You're implying that a Perry would give illegals the right to vote, correct? What makes you think that a President Perry and a GOP-controlled House and Senate would pass a law giving illegals the vote when Obama and a Democrat House and Senate did not and could not? That's illogical.
