Tom Tancredo: Rick Perry not a true conservative
Politico ^ | 08/11/2011 | Tom Tancredo

On Saturday Texas Gov. Rick Perry is expected to announce whether or not he will run for president. Many now believe he will.

Perry is eager to separate himself from his predecessor in the Texas governor’s mansion, George W. Bush — who is unpopular with both tea party Republicans and the American electorate as a whole. But one area where Perry’s positions are virtually identical to Bush is immigration.

When I ran for president in 2008, I tried to pressure the Republican candidates to take a hard line against illegal immigration. For this, Perry called me a racist.

When he first took office as governor in 2001, Perry went to Mexico and bragged about his law that granted “the children of undocumented workers” special in-state tuition at Texas colleges, the first state in the nation to do so.

“The message is simple,” Perry concluded, “educacion es el futuro, y si se puede.” Education is the future, and (echoing Cesar Chavez’s slogan) yes we can.]

Just a few weeks ago, Perry defended his decision to give in-state tuition to illegal immigrants. He said “to punish these young Texans for their parents’ actions is not what America has always been about.”

Perry opposed Arizona’s tough anti-illegal immigration law SB 1070. “I have concerns,” he explained, “with portions of the law passed in Arizona and believe it would not be the right direction for Texas.”

He spoke out last year against using E-Verify to prevent illegal immigrants from getting jobs as state employees, who get their paychecks from the taxpayers. He insisted it “would not make a hill of beans’ difference.”

Numbers USA, a group that supports immigration control, gives Perry a “D-“ for his positions supporting amnesty, open borders, and opposing border security.

Perry is a rino, compassionate, conservative/liberal. There is not one issue he has not been on all sides of. That is except spending and he has aways supported the hell out of growing government and spending. His friend Vincenty Fox really likes the free education for illegals.

The Governor did not pull an “end run” against the Legislature, he exercised authority that they had delegated to him.

The Legislature gave the authority to the Executive Branch. The Governor is the Executive Officer, he appoints and runs the Exec. Branch. He gave an order to the Director of the Department of State Health Services.

The kind of candidate Tom Tancredo likes can't get elected. He ran himself and flamed out, remember?

We must win in 2012. The good is not the enemy of the best.

To support illegal immigration is to aim for the destruction of the country. America will cease to be a country if we don't close the borders-and SOON. NO to Perry!

The law only allows for in state tuition. It does not change the qualifications for State aide or for citizenship. The restrictions are higher for the children of illegal aliens than they are for children of parents who live in other States.

Nevertheless, the Legislature passed the bill 10 years ago. They completely overhauled it in 2005. Both times, the vote was unanimous in the Senate and veto-proof in the House.
The People have not moved to overturn that law.

“We must say to every Texas child learning in a Texas classroom, ‘we don’t care where you come from, but where you are going, and we are going to do everything we can to help you get there.’” he said. “And that vision must include the children of undocumented workers.

We must win in 2012. The good is not the enemy of the best.

If you win with Perry you better savor it because its likely to be the last time a republican wins.

If there are 30 million illegals in America, its enough to populate more than 50 congressional districts. Give them the right to vote and we'll look back at Obama as a moderate.

You’re not telling the truth. Perry has been consistent. He has forced spending cuts in 2003 and this year. There is free education K-12 because the Federal courts keep interfering.

There is in-State tuition - not free - for a segment of the children of illegal aliens who are brought here as minors, maintain good character, attend 3 years of high school, earn a diploma, live in the State for the 12 months prior to the first semester in college, and who are admitted to college.

Get the Feds to allow us to identify and deport the families during the 3 years of high school. Or that last year.

Bill Bennett is at it again! He pushed McLaim in the primaries and now he’s out stumping for Perry.

Thank you, I would appreciate it. Here's what I've found out:

On February 02, 2007 Perry issued Executive Order RP65. A quote from his EO:

"The Health and Human Services Executive Commissioner shall adopt rules that mandate the age appropriate vaccination of all female children for HPV prior to admission to the sixth grade."

From what I read from several sources, Perry refused to rescind his EO, so the Texas House passed HB 1098 on March 14, 2007, overturning his executive order by a vote of 119-21.

I haven't read HB 1098 yet, but here is Perry's EO:

RP65 – Relating to the immunization of young women from the cancer-causing Human Papillomavirus
