Speaker Boehner Announces Appointments to Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction
Washington (Aug 10)
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today announced his intent to appoint the following three lawmakers to represent House Republicans on the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction:
House Republican Conference Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX)
House Ways & Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI)
House Energy & Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI)
Speaker Boehner has tapped Chairman Hensarling to serve as a co-chair of the joint select committee. Boehner issued the following statement regarding the appointments of Chairmen Hensarling, Camp, and Upton:
Our debt and deficits are a threat to our economy, and America cannot achieve long-term job growth until we take action to address this crisis. In the weeks ahead, a serious, bipartisan committee of lawmakers will begin the hard but necessary work of making the tough choices needed to rein in mandatory and entitlement spending, which are the drivers of our debt. The lawmakers I have appointed to serve on this joint committee are proven leaders who have earned the trust and confidence of their colleagues and constituents. They understand the gravity of our debt crisis and I appreciate their willingness to serve on this panel.
The two parties have fundamental differences about government and its proper role in our society. Where we've been able to agree, we have acted, and in a way consistent with the American peoples desire for a smaller, less costly, and more accountable government. Still, the differences remain, and so does the urgent work of returning our economy to creating jobs and lifting the crushing burden of debt that threatens our childrens future. This joint committee presents an opportunity for both parties to bring to the table their best ideas, debate them on the merits, and ultimately come together to do whats best for our country. With all thats at stake, I expect that the joint select committee will conduct its work in the open and transparent manner the American people deserve.
You are entitled to believe whatever you wish but I STILL believe these are extremely goo picks for the committee.
THIS IS THE MAN WHO CAME UP WITH THE IDEA TO BAN THE LIGHTBULB!!

Glaringly missing is any Tea Party freshmen....
Are any of Boehner's or McConnell's picks identified with the Tea Party? That would be my guess as to why Paul Ryan wasn't picked.
I see the failure to include Paul Ryan or Eric Cantor as Boehner’s belated birfday gift to petulant little Barry
“Wanted: Men to save the economy of the free world’s last superpower. No adults need apply”
,,,,,,, shouldn’t be hard to get those 7 liberal votes IMO .
I am DISGUSTED! no...I’m FURIOUS!!!!
And the one who knows the most isn’t appointed - Ryan.
WTF?!?!?!??!
Ryan asked NOT to be on THIS committee....smart guy!
,,,,,,, shouldn’t be hard to get those 7 liberal votes IMO .
It looks like The path to Hell is well paved . . .
My first thought too. Why not Ryan. He is a budget genius.
I have a bad feeling about this. I hope the GOP realizes if they vote to increase taxes, they are dead to me.
Unconstitutional?? To make recommendations?? (which they will fail at by design)
When you use that word all the time it loses meaning, like the old story of :'The boy that cried unconstitutional"
He probably would have appointed Barney Frank if he could.
Glaringly missing is any Tea Party freshmen....
Upton is a RINO.
As the Michigander on this thread I have to say, I’m Sorry.
Fred Upton...total RINO
Hensarling...Boehner chose Hensarling over a true conservative, DeMint to chair the Republican Conference
And a Michigan republican who is a member of the moderate Republican Main Street Partnership, who will be as useless as boobies on a male swine.
Upton is a HORRIBLE pick unless you like big governement. See post #22.
He’s more suited for the communist party than the Republican Party!
Damn, I guess this seals the deal that we are now royally %^&ked!
