The successful intervention of an armed citizen in a Skyway shooting Saturday night is garnering considerable public reaction, with the majority opinion clearly supportive of the citizen who not only held the perpetrator at gunpoint, but also handcuffed him before King County Sheriffs deputies arrived.
The story is being reported by KOMO, the Seattle Times and on-line Seattle P-I.com, with public comments here, here and here, respectively. The issue is also being discussed on the Northwest Firearms, Defensive Carry and Washington Open Carry forums. Significantly, one of the public comments on the Seattle P-I.com site appears to be from the armed citizen:
It's really, really, not a big deal. Anyone else would have done it. I'm hoping the publicity from this blows over in a day or two. Thanks for the kind words everyone. Just glad everyone lived, especially me.
This column noted Friday that Washington now has a new record number of active concealed pistol licenses (CPLs) in circulation, with more than 341,000 citizens licensed to carry. That comes to about 5.1 percent of the state population, making the Evergreen State one of the top per-capita in the nation when it comes to people legally packing, a fact that as this column noted the other day appears to give Washington CeaseFire's Ralph Fascitelli heartburn.

when seconds count, cops are minutes away! Or hours away???
I’ve been a law enforcement officer for over 23 years, we can only respond to crime, we cannot prevent or intervene anymore. It is up to you to stop it. We want to be there for you but it is impossible
Enough said...
Expect the liberals to reveal the identity of this good samaritan so the perpetrators know where to direct their retaliation.
Then, the liberals will dig deep into this man’s past in an effort to uncover anything suspicious in an effort to discredit and disarm him.
Great tag! Have you hear about the Winn Parish sheriff?
No, I haven’t but interested to know.

Leesville is another town with major Chief of Police problems too.
Does this guy’s significant other get the handcuffs returned and were they feathered?
One in 15 seems higher than average.
surprising for WA
From this story and the other one I read about the incident, it’s not clear to me how “Good Sam” knew the shooter he approached and cuffed was a bad guy.
If I get into an altercation, in a parking lot or anywhere else, and I have to shoot someone in self defense, any stranger who approaches me pointing a gun at me but without a uniform or a badge is likely to get shot too.
Strange...
Our New York State Troopers` mission is to do the following:
Law enforcement agencies, however, often are the focal point in community crime prevention.
This can be beneficial to prevention efforts because these law enforcement officers:
Know what crime is happening, where it is happening, and by whom -
Have the expertise to stop crime before it happens -
Can bring community members, police departments, and government officials together -
The New York State Police Mission is to serve, protect, and defend the people while preserving the rights and dignity of all. A priority in our mission is to PREVENT crime and enforce the law. The State Police had a responsibility to protect people and property, to PREVENT and detect crime and other violations of law, pursue criminal investigations, and arrest criminals.

As someone outside your profession, with declining respect for it, your reply touched me deeply. It’s is very nice to know that at least some oldtimers are not happy with the state of affairs. Bless you.
I’m among the 1 in 15 Washington State citizens now patrolling the streets with CCW while the police do who-knows-what besides nab and fine law-abiding motorists for revenue, conduct the occasional SWAT raid, and file paper work after a crime is finished. It’s a shame here.
You do not actually believe that do you?
“..Expect the liberals to reveal the identity of this good samaritan so the perpetrators know where to direct their retaliation...”
Those liberals LIVE somewhere too. They have names, addresses, and probably no guns.
Would be a shame if the same thing happened to their privacy, wouldn’t it?
Just sayin’... that kinda stuff works both ways.
“...Ive been a law enforcement officer for over 23 years, we can only respond to crime, we cannot prevent or intervene anymore. It is up to you to stop it. We want to be there for you but it is impossible...”
Officer, your candor is refreshing and appreciated. Thank you. It’s not what we usually hear from LEOs.
Too many people do not (or refuse to) understand that WE, the Citizens are the “first responders” - WE are the people directly under attack at the given moment by some freak, and what we do (or don’t do) usually determines whether we live or die.
It wasn’t always like this, and that’s what is so infuriating - the Sheeple mindset has been deliberately created in people. A generation of sheep begets a generation of wolves - and that’s what we’re seeing now.
And good, innocent folks DIE because of it.
Be armed, be alert, be safe, and be brave. Your family needs you alive, not as a photograph to be cried over.
Equally valid for men OR women.
As a quick aside, I regard ANY politician of either party who advocates the legislated disarmament of Citizens to be equally guilty of murder as the actual perpetrator of the actual crime.
These people that seek to pass laws forcibly disarming me and other Citizens are aiding the criminal in his job, and facilitating the deaths of untold numbers of innocent people.
To my mind, a billboard should be posted, showing the number of murders in any given city, and the faces of every politician (as well as addresses) who passed gun control laws preventing citizens from legally carrying a sidearm for self-defense. Let people who never pay attention SEE who is trying to get you killed.
I’d rather see the criminal dead, than an innocent victim. But I guess I’m just “radical”....
You're a clever man!
All we can do as LEOs to prevent crime is know where they happen and who commits them. But then, we can only stop people we reasonably suspect have committed or are about to commit a crime. Arbitrary stops are a thing of the past.
Thanks, but I’m not so clever. More like really just sick of their sh*t and them getting away with it all the time.
A little “opposition research” goes a long way to shoving it up their arses.
Which is something we should take active measures to do at every opportunity.
Returning from the doctor`s office in 1965 with my wife, I heard some noise from an alley . I rushed over and I saw a guy trying to rape a young woman. I yelled at him `I already called the cops- leave her alone.``
The wannabe rapist ran away.
Another time in 1998, I was at a burgher joint full of people. We all saw some guy drag a woman out of the car and start to beat her, I quickly ran out, confronted him and got between him and the woman. I told hom the same thing. He jumped back in the car and took off.
All the police here ride around in their cars all day; there are no foot patrols- ergo they are blind, deaf and whatever coz rapes do not usually occur in moving cars made totally of glass.
In Carlsad, California in 1986, at a beach hotel, I heard a commotion in the parking lot.
Two men were trying to drag a woman out of a pickp truck, grabbing her purse. These two guys were brandishing pistols.
I yelled out the second story window at them, ran down stairs out to the pickup whereby they dropped the woman unceremoniously on the pavement, dropped her purse and took off in the their car. I brought the bruised lady over to the the motel lobby gate, which had been locked up with security and everyone inside. They refused to open the gate for this bleeding woman- I called the cops who came fast and they made the motel manager and security open the gate so she could get some first aid. I gave the license plate number to the cops and they caught the guys.
I was taught by my grandfather- never hestitate to go to the rescue because God will be there with you for doing the good and right thing. God is more powerful than a pistol.
