Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean says the tea party was "totally unreasonable" in the deficit-reduction debate and warns that Republicans are being held hostage.
"This is a tea party problem," Dean said Sunday on CBS's "Face the Nation." "They are totally unreasonable and doctrinaire and not founded in reality. I think they've been smoking some of that tea, not just drinking it."
"This is ridiculous what's going on here," he said.
The firebrand Democrat and former Vermont governor said the Standard & Poor's downgrade of the nation's credit is "a good thing" because it underscores the need to raise revenue to address the nation's fiscal crisis.
But he said certain elements of the Republican Party make it impossible for reasonable people to do what Dean said is right -- raising taxes on the wealthy.

What a gaggle of freaking pathetic third graders. They cannot do anything themselves so first it’s the “racist” tea party” then it’s blaming the “extremist” tea party and now it’s the fault of the “irresponsible” tea party. And Americans are losing jobs and savings and their homes and somehow, in their cardboard refrigerator boxes under freeway overpasses they think they will get some relief by supporting these jerks who have blowout parties at the WH and gather campaign contributions from the super-wealthy. It’s really hard to understand.
The RATs (ie.”marxists”) have not learned from 2009 and 2010, ever since they began to demonize the tea party (ie.”regular Americans”) by calling them (us) Nazis and racists, we (regular Americans) have struck with a vengeance, taking on their onslaughts and gaining ever more strength to fight and defeat them at the polls.
They are STUCK ON STUPID, and I hope they continue to be stuck on stupid. All the evidence points that they are!
It is highly unlikely that a person could earn a medical degree and also be elected the governor of a state and yet be so out of touch with reality. Yes, it is highly unlikely, but then there is Howard Dean.

To understand why the Dims are attacking the Tea Party in such a coordinated way just think about 1) What is best for their real boss, Goldman Sachs and 2) how do they avoid the blame for not reducing spending, forget about what is the best thing to do for the country. Just keep spending.
If we reduce spending the way the markets want us to, Goldman stands to get hammered because if 10% of annual GDP goes away (the amount of the annual deficit), prices will crash and they who depend on the value of their security to repay the goofy loans they have out there will be eliminated because their net equity will be gone.
