Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean says the tea party was "totally unreasonable" in the deficit-reduction debate and warns that Republicans are being held hostage.
"This is a tea party problem," Dean said Sunday on CBS's "Face the Nation." "They are totally unreasonable and doctrinaire and not founded in reality. I think they've been smoking some of that tea, not just drinking it."
"This is ridiculous what's going on here," he said.
The firebrand Democrat and former Vermont governor said the Standard & Poor's downgrade of the nation's credit is "a good thing" because it underscores the need to raise revenue to address the nation's fiscal crisis.
But he said certain elements of the Republican Party make it impossible for reasonable people to do what Dean said is right -- raising taxes on the wealthy.

“what Dean said is right — raising taxes on the wealthy.”
If you want less of something, tax it.
These people talk out of both sides of their mouths and don’t even see the stupidity. It’s a “good thing” but it’s the Tea Party’s fault.
- Obama: “S&P made 2T error”
- Axelrod: “TP’s fault”
- Geithner: “Didnt really happen.”
- DNC- “Taxes too low and spend more”
- Chicoms- “The days of borrowing your way out of messes is over”
Does Mr. Dean not know that we know that when they raise taxes on the “wealthy” guy who owns a widget factory, the “wealthy” guy is gonna raise the prices on the widgets we have to buy next month? WE are the ones who are hurt by Mr. Dean’s taxes, not the “wealthy” guy!
What a putz. YYYYYEEEAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
This, and only this, part is true, but JFK, Ronald Reagqan, and Dubya all showed that the best way to do this is by cutting taxes to get the economy moving again, not by raising taxes and slowing the economy down even more.
So far the DNC has done nothing to try and assure taxpayers and investors ahead of Monday markets.
Blame yes, assure nope.
Be prepared to hear more of it. Blaming the Tea Party for the downgrade is their official plan. You’ll be hearing more and more of it. Question is, will we fight back or let it stick?
Smokin’ the bastRATs out - 2012!!!

It's as though the village idiot was made chief and he told the tribal council to go ahead and permit the villagers to eat all the seed grain for next year's crop.
Got it dung head?
Dean mainlines ‘rat poison.
The Tea Party didn’t want this useless bill passed.
Pray for America
Hey Dean, IT’S THE SPENDING STUPID!
