Avoid groups of the ferals whenever you can, and if they follow you, be prepared to use your firearm. Carry an extra mag as well.
Thanks for that link E. Reg. that 2.5 million a year number, If that is divided down to days and then figured into 50 states, (sure, more in some states than others due to many factors), it works out to one heck of a daily per state number! I con. carry 100% of the time out and about, (and open carry here at home on the mountain), but I hope I never have to use my weapon for anything other than target shooting or hunting or training. If I do, I have been trained in skills, mindset and pre/post incidents legal considerations. I believe it was either weapons experts/wqriters/trainers Clint Smith or Massad Ayoob, (might have been someone else), that wrote an article a while back that stated, according to available info, even a 100% justified use of lethal force ended up costing the ‘good guy’ approx. thirty grand on average depending on the many factors involved!! The alternative of ending up murdered of course makes it a no brainer, but we had better be DAMN sure if our weapon is going to be presented in a self defense action, and then DAMN sure, and one must have prepared this in our heads a long time before......to use it. The last sentence of your post says it all. I could not agree more with that. It is really sad so many go thru life with the ‘it/that will never happen to me’ stupid thinking. I know quite a few fellow seniors who think(?) this way. They should know better I believe.
Gay man dies in car crash. Gay man loses in poker game. Gay man suffers stroke. Gay man loses election. Gay man loses business. Gay man gets a cold...
Gun-haters have no problem heaping disdain on people who own guns. We need to return the favor by having disdain for people who allow themselves to be victimized. I understand your sympathy for the victim, but we are playing their Alinsky game against them; ridicule is man's most potent weapon.
Advice to the guy who got sucker punched and robbed- “be polite to every person you encounter, but have a plan to kill them if need be”.
Never simply ignore the people around you. Wait behind the queue, face the door, stand to the rear etc, assessing the situation as it changes. Be purposeful. If you act like a sheep, you may very well be treated like one.
Some folks may say this is paranoid, but it is not if someone is in fact out to get you (and they are!).
Situational awareness is not that hard to achieve, but it does make for a more deliberate lifestyle.
Anticipating other actions is key- although you cannot predict this type of event, you can position yourself to be much less at risk., simply facing slightly towards others can reduce exposure and susceptibility quite a bit. Yes, there is a choice- if standing at the counter between a little old lady and a younger person or a male face towards the younger person (with your strong side toward the counter to protect your power side & your armament-if armed not)-that is where your higher risk is at. Stand back, knees unlocked, not flat footed but in a slight weak foot forward stance, keep others in sight, be thinking of a plan. Be armed if at all possible (then you will be more alert simply due to the fact that your weapon could be taken in such a situation).
Anyway, it is a lifestyle. Be the harmless but capable person, prepared to become the fighting sheepdog.
