Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) repeatedly criticized Democrats last year for voting on legislation that members didnt have time to read. "Read the Bill" language was even included in the GOP's Pledge to America to ensure lawmakers would have adequate notice to review legislation.
"Neither members of Congress or the public were given time to read the trillion-dollar stimulus before it passed. Nobody read the cap-and-trade bill. Nobody read the budget. And yet Democrats approved them anyway," Boehner said in a video last year. Every major bill should be posted online and publicly available for at least 72 hours."

Unfortunately, many people don't understand the principle of balance of power.
When Obama said in 2009 I won he wasn't kidding - he had the super-majority he needed to finish what Clintons didn't accomplish because they didn't have the super-majority. He sacrificed Congress but it may actually help him in his reelection campaign and he did advance his / Democrats agenda.
Just like the Arab Spring running on emotions, people in Egypt (and other countries) who were so happy to see their tyrant, now are not happy what they got and have to grapple with the results of their emotions - the Arab Summer just as emotional but not a happy time.
Rationally, GOP did succeed in changing the direction and focus of the discussion about the government spending and won the admission from the Democrats that [some of] the runaway spending must be cut... In the absence of perfect (whatever that is, subjectively) it's a good prologue to the 2012 national and states campaigns.
Boehner doesn't want that type of scrutiny.
This bill is a farce and a disgrace.
Pelosi couldn't have done worse.
We gave the Senate a Bill.
So, we continue to give them same bill until they deal with it.
We don't back up and run for cover.
The House runs by simple majority vote, whoever has the majority has TOTAL control.
And that 1/3 was given the responsiblity of handling the fiances by the Founding Fathers since it was closest to the People with two year elections.
They have the votes to defund whatever they want.
“The immoveable deadline is tomorrow.”
So sorry you bought into that falsehood. The Aug. 2 (alleged) deadline isn’t mandatory, it is an arbitrary date thrown out there, and it is flexible. (At least that’s what every expert talking head said over the weekend.)
The GOP in general and Boehner, Brown and rest
can never be trusted.
America stupidly elected the liars
and was pissed on by them - over and over.
America WON the election.
But Boehner, Brown and the rest gave the WIN to Obama.
Maybe I meant our point of view has no leadership. However, that leads us to dangerous territory as well. Right now it seems this country needs a saviour. This is the reason why going to get ready and start preparing.
I appreciate it. So far I have about 10 of those instant meals. 20lbs of flour and 20lbs of rice. One shotgun. However, I think I need at least 12+ months of supplies. After the vote yesterday, I lost all hope, and I am convinced the fix is in and it will get a whole lot worse
I am stunned that the liberal media keeps advertising a victory for the Tea party. I know I shouldn’t be stunned at this point about what those windbags say. I don’t see anyone in the Tea party celebrating.
I was wondering if anyone was going to post an article on this topic. Yep, the GOP is no better than the Rats. We’ve officially been screwed by both parties now.
They have the votes to defund whatever they want.
Your ignorrance of how Congress works astounds me. The Senate (Dem) would then vote it down and/or the (Dem) Presiudent would veto any bill. Geez................
ignorrance = ignorance (typo) above
“Unfortunately, many people don’t understand the principle of balance of power.”
Finally, one voice of reason on this thread. Thank you so much, I was a very lonely amongst the less than rational responses here. Thanks for your logical, unemotional input.
America.
Great idea.
Couldn't last.
Look, I'm with ya. But what's with using a the Democrat gimmicks and Constitutional-Process-Erasing garbage? The Deem-And-Pass, the failure to provide time to read the bill. This is straight out of Pelosi's playbook!!! This is unacceptable behavior!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm PISSED!!!!!
Two-thousand billion of our kid's money for Maobama to pi$$ away freely over the next two years. During that same time period, we get 62 billion in spending cuts. Worse, the cuts don't matter, as baseline spending eats them up and makes them totally irrelevant.
Your question has me wondering exactly how far it needs to get stuck up some people's a$$eS before they realize they're getting screwed.
From a nutritional standpoint, Beans and rice, or beans and any grain, will provide complete protein for our bodies. 20 or 50 pound sacks of each are relatively cheap if you’ve got a place you can hunker down. If you’ve gotta think about leaving (ie, live in a city) it’s a whole different ball game. But outside cities, do the math on your per day calories, and get a baseline beans/rice diet going - you’ll have a several year supply quickly. Everything else is just spice, or a luxury, but stock up on something to keep your morale up as well! And one-a-day vits.
You’ll need clean water, either in bulk, or renewable, and Clorox or other water purification stuff - otherwise, can’t cook the beans and rice! :) Bulk salt is also a must, and some of those cheap plastic storage containers for the dried food to keep the varmints out.
Some way to catch or grow food helps, depending on where you live. Heirloom seeds for dried beans and corn that’ll grow where you live, and these may also be a great barter item!
Some way to cook the food if the grid and gas goes down.
Lots of everyday items: TP, lanterns and fuel, hand tools, tin foil, ziplock bags, wire, duct tape, rope/string, soap, reading glasses, etc.
Fuel, depending on your situation, but at least some way to produce heat and light. And along those lines, there are whole websites devoted to appliances that will run on 12V batteries: A few solar tickler chargers will keep you in business for quite some time. Three 12Vs hooked in series can run an arc welder: not a bad set up and skill to have when SHTF.
Medical supplies, including stashes of the meds we old farts are on to keep us alive. Recent post on FR about SHTF diarrhea risk was quite good.
Barter items: bag silver coins, sealed pipe tobacco tins, liquor, in addition to the TP, meds, bandaids, batteries, heirloom seeds, etc mentioned above.
Shotgun is good! Get lots of 00 or 000, and some slugs. Also some for hunting if need be. Ammo will be great barter as well - get lots. LOTS of web sites devoted to SHTF weaponry and tactics!
A Bible for most, and a pocket copy of the Constitution and Declaration (from Heritage) - to remind us who we are.
Get as much as you can, learn how to use it and even run drills. Discretely form a network of like-minded friends and neighbors, but otherwise keep quiet about it. Bury stuff in caches off site. Be ready, and be vigilant.
