I just don't understand how anyone can deny the obvious, unless they are running on pure emotion, and no rationale.

Unfortunately, many people don't understand the principle of balance of power.

When Obama said in 2009 I won he wasn't kidding - he had the super-majority he needed to finish what Clintons didn't accomplish because they didn't have the super-majority. He sacrificed Congress but it may actually help him in his reelection campaign and he did advance his / Democrats agenda.

Just like the Arab Spring running on emotions, people in Egypt (and other countries) who were so happy to see their tyrant, now are not happy what they got and have to grapple with the results of their emotions - the Arab Summer just as emotional but not a happy time.

Rationally, GOP did succeed in changing the direction and focus of the discussion about the government spending and won the admission from the Democrats that [some of] the runaway spending must be cut... In the absence of perfect (whatever that is, subjectively) it's a good prologue to the 2012 national and states campaigns.

“Unfortunately, many people don’t understand the principle of balance of power.”

Finally, one voice of reason on this thread. Thank you so much, I was a very lonely amongst the less than rational responses here. Thanks for your logical, unemotional input.

Unfortunately, many people don't understand the principle of balance of power.

Look, I'm with ya. But what's with using a the Democrat gimmicks and Constitutional-Process-Erasing garbage? The Deem-And-Pass, the failure to provide time to read the bill. This is straight out of Pelosi's playbook!!! This is unacceptable behavior!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm PISSED!!!!!

Hugo Grotius also wrote on just wars along with informal wars, not just tweaked "the balance of power" theory. In the case of just wars, the HOR, by sovereign right given by the Constitution of the United States, had the power to force the the other body of Congress and the other Branch of government to conform to their ideals. Instead they compromised, feared the unjust backlash and allowed themselves to become puppets on a (Financiers) string.

In government there is the right "thing to do", the partisan "thing to do" and compromise "thing to do". As a society we are constantly ignoring the right thing, while embracing the other two "irresponsibilities". The debt limit is there to control spending. The Federal Government has hundreds of billions in income (Taxes and what not) flowing into their coffers each month. In the event of the debt limit not being raised, the Treasury, led by the Obama administration, would direct payment to cover the Federal government expenses.

If any economic calamity occurs it should be at the expense of the present generation, not the future since they have no representation. Who voted for this debt? Everyone who is alive and over 19 years of age. The debt is a strangle hold on liberty and needs to be addressed ASAP. This compromise solves nothing except bringing a "relaxing" vacation to robbers, panderers, thieves and scoundrels in the Halls of Congress, the Presidency, and the Executive Cabinet.

As for the second type of war described by Grotius, the informal war, well, Congress and the President just extended the war, praised on this website by a bunch of GOP Party hacks. Enjoy the perpetual war on the individual, your great-great-great/great-great/great/grand-kids will thank you immensely for their current "perdictament and obligations".
