Just wow...I guess we all have water woes of one kind or another...

We’re behind on our annual 12”, and this is the height of our rainy season. That’s what I get for living in the desert!

I think we have had less than 10” for the past 10 months. We normally get about 34 - 36” per year.

What we do out here would work, but would mean one massive amount of public works spending and the loss of private property.

Hmmm, well, maybe each landowner could do their own property?

That new 78 inch line for a couple of cities east of Lake Travis is buried 12 or 15 feet underground. There is little above ground evidence it is even there now. Most doors are about 80” tall, so think of the amount of water it is sucking out on a daily basis.

The LCRA was going to send another 800 million gallons to San Antonio per year, but it wouldn’t have been able to do it with all the new growth here. We sure could use a pipeline that size to bring water to Texas.

It’s funny you should say that. A customer from Washington and I agreed that a pipeline would be a great idea! :)

Welcome to the Canteen, Western Phil. Thanks for the links. Very interesting reading.

Did the noise from the well drive you crazy, or did you get used to it?

I am wondering if the well was there when we took our trip as the fellow’s description of things does not ring a bell at all. We left port in Bayonne, New Jersey on LBJ’s inauguration day which would have been Jan. 20, 1965. As I recall, I got sort of sea sick as we crossed the calm waters of the bay, before we really got out to the ocean. A few days later during a storm, we lost power and since the Mizar had a round bottom (being an ice breaker) we rolled quite a bit. The technical people spent that time in our bunks. My boss, who prided himself on not getting sea sick, did so during this time. Strangely, I was not so affected. Probably due to the problem in the calm waters.

On a slightly different subject, the National Archives unfortunately destroyed a goodly percentage of NRL’s historicl records http://www.aip.org/history/newsletter/spr98/nrl-nara.htm
