That’s a cowardly statement. They could vote not to spend a dime if they wanted to. They are not under any obligation or higher authority to spend anything. They just authorized trillions more in spending.

We add another trillion each year to the $14.4 trillion debt and pretend this is responsible?

How much of this final deal was worked out weeks ago between Obama, Boehner, McConnell, Pelosi, and Reid?

The economy is off the table until after the 2012 election and there's no commitment for a BBA. Is that about right? Fire Boehner for not stopping this.

This was never about stopping the spending. Boehner screwed up with the CR in December 2010, with Boehner 2.0 and now with Reid/Zer0. They should have passed 'Cut, Cap and Balance' as many times as necessary, putting the ball in Cowboy Reid's court until he cries 'uncle.'

But remember these words.....when you call everyone a RINO, then NO one is a RINO.

McCain qualified for sure, but he had Sarah Palin at his side, and aren't you glad she's in the picture now?

God is in control, Terry. But we need to do the work of continuing to elect conservative, God-fearing, country honoring, Constitution loving candidates in the Republican primaries.

If we do our work in the primaries, there will BE no more John McCains pretending to represent our interests.

Time to get to work, not throw in the towel.

I agree with most of what you say, but the Reagan Presidency and Gingrich Speakership were broad-spectrum conservative, like on social issues too. The Gingrich House gave us the Defense of Marriage Act and Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. But Republican Senators in THIS congress helped Democrats repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

The Tea Party and the House Republican’s “Pledge to America” focus almost entirely on spending cuts. That’s just a tiny part of conservatism.

But from time to time conservatives take control of the Republican Party and drive it for awhile. In my lifetime that has happened 3 times:

1 - Reagan Presidency

Definitely transformational and Reagan is a genuine hero, but neither Reagan or the Republican senate we had for awhile were able to cut spending at all. Infact, spending exploded during that period.

2 - Gingrich speakership

The Republicans folded in 95' like a cheap tent when Clinton and media demolished them on the public relations front during the government shutdowns. Again, transformational, but they still didn't really get spending under control. A real lost moment too. Conservatives were on the move, sparked by the Reagan revolution, but Clinton managed to sit in office for 8 years and stymie any real change beyond welfare reform and a few other things.

3 - Tea Party

It's not just the Tea Party. It's the emergence of the Tea Party and movement conservatives that had watched Bush and the Republicans spend like drunken monkey's, act like Democrats and utterly destroy the Republican brand. The grass roots made of up Tea Party and movement conservatives got involved in the primaries - but what's far more important is the STAYED involved. The Republican party is probably more conservative now than it has been since at least WW2. If anyone can name a time where it has been more conservative overall than it is now, please tell me.

Unless we're going to call for a full revolution and start shooting, we conservatives need to win more at the ballot box before we can make more substantial progress towards our goals.

We're on a good track in that direction and the next election will be critical to picking up steam. The next important steps are the primaries, especially presidential.

I say it’s time the rinos joined the real conservatives. The other way around ain’t workin’ too well.

In 1984 I was at a republican victory party. (Yes, I’ve been a republican since way before then.) After the election was called I said “We need to get rid of Phil Graham.”

First, very little Ron Paul has to say impresses me much. Here he is making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Second, this is a long way from your suggestion that the House would just DEEM whatever the committee put forward into law. Every elected congressperson and senator will get a chance to vote yes or no on whatever this committee puts forth. They can't amend it or filibuster it. The House writes rules for bills all the time that can't be amended. I am quite sure it was done for this very piece of legislation that passed today.

That's correct....it's a very dangerous proposition...equally as much giving the 'leadership' of the House and Senate the 'power to appoint' them. This committee will now upstage the Consititution of the American people and the Representation we have in Congress.

They will have the authority to recommend raising taxes....and you can bet they will do just that...among other ill willed things for the American people. This is very nasty business coming down the road.

To be quite frank, my personal wealth is very pleased at this outcome. One thing I hate is when government has a decision to make regarding the economy.
I cant believe many people here would have preferred to default than pass a deal. You would expect that sort of talk on DU where you have the occasional anarchist here and there; but HERE?! Im guessing alot of people on here didnt have much to lose, which is weird since fiscal conservatives would and should have been very worried. Oh thats right! We dont have those types anymore.

In the Republican primaries ALL the candidates have "R's" by their names, and our job is to work for, support financially and vote for the more conservative candidate of the two.

THAT, Mr Mross, is how we get rid of the RINO's that we all want to remove.

In the general election, we vote for the R because the alternative is unthinkable. But if we have done our job.....and it's the job of every conservative......then we will have a conservative candidate to run against Obama.

That's the only way it's going to get doen in 2012, and that needs to be the goal of everyone on this forum, and every conservative across the country.

It isn't a matter of voting for anyone who has an "R" by his name, it's a matter of making sure those R's are actual conservatives.

We proved in 2010 that it can be done. It just needs to happen again......and again, and again.
