>> “What we have to do is vote for more conservative Republicans. It’s obvious from this vote that we need a whole lot more principled conservatives in Congress. A whole lot more” <<

.
May well be the understatement of the year.

We truly do have a one-party system in congress.

I’d love to see Sarah Palin suit’em all up in orange jumpsuits.

So sorry to hear of your wife´s passing. It all turns out right in the end though, thank God.

Meanwhile, onward for Palin.

Any conservative who thinks this deal was bad must have been climbing the walls in pain during the Bush era, when Republicans were doing the spending and passing the socialist programs. Like when Republican leader Tom DeLay said the Republican majority congress couldn’t cut spending because all the bad stuff had already been cut out of the budget. Or when Bush passed his Medicare drug bill and turned the nation’s schools over to the federal government with Ted Kennedy’s No Child Left Behind.

No kidding. This is what I don't get. People are wailing as if the Republican party was somehow more RINO than ever - and wanting to primary folks like Paul Ryan. Please name me a time the GOP was more conservative than it is now? At least since WW2, I bet you can't. In just a couple short years the Tea Party and movement conservatives have pushed this party further to the right than it has been anytime in generations.

It's one thing to hold our representatives feet to the fire, quite another to freak out and declare the end of the republic because tying spending cuts (however small) to a debt ceiling increase for the first time didn't achieve as much as we wanted.

Excuse me but does this bill not create a Special Committee (Polit Bureau) on the budget and debt? Also does this same bill not DEEM anything they pass as passed by the house? Do you not think for 1 minute this Special Committee will not be given broader authority and powers in the very near future?

IMO, the election of 2012 is our last opportunity. It’s time to do.

Do.

It’s not business as usual. It’s not go along. It’s survival time.

Can you name them?

(Clue: There aren’t any)

By the next election anyone running as a Republican is merely advertising his weak spine and availability for sale.

Poppycock!

You can live in your doomsday world of gloom and doom, but WE.....WE CONSERVATIVES.....have moved the entire conversation to the right.

Do you actually think there would have been even the slightest fuss about the debt ceiling without Tea Party Republicans? Do you think there would be the hope of a balanced budget amendment without Tea Party Republicans??

I am so sick of those of you who have thrown in the towel and are willing to let the country go to the dogs.

There is a HUGE difference between RINO's and the people we elected in November. We just need more of them. LOTS more.

You can give up if you don't care what happens to this country, but I'm sure not going to.

We will probably never have to vote again since this thing is bringing us a Super Congress, people who will get all the say and have no consequences.

The Republican Party is a vehicle which is usually controlled by rebel Democrats who disagree with that party on one or two issues (like war or business taxes).

But from time to time conservatives take control of the Republican Party and drive it for awhile. In my lifetime that has happened 3 times:

1 - Reagan Presidency
2 - Gingrich speakership
3 - Tea Party

Then you didn't mean your 'no money to Repubs' I take it....

Maybe you should have that post deleted because it's a really bad idea to recommend withdrawing funds from conservative Republicans like Gov. Palin.

Oh.....I'm sorry that I didn't give my condolences to you for the passing of your wife.

May God bring you comfort in this time of grief. I can't imagine how badly it hurts to lose one so close.

“The cuts may be small, but the ship of state is like a super tanker and turning it around is not easy and takes a long time. “

That’s a cowardly statement. They could vote not to spend a dime if they wanted to. They are not under any obligation or higher authority to spend anything. They just authorized trillions more in spending.

Ever heard of BRAC? The Base Realignment and Closure Committee. It did something very similar and its members were appointed by the President. It didn't even have to have elected representatives on it. The Congress created it and bound itself to it's decisions - and it actually worked fairly well. Somehow the republic didn't fold.

Also does this same bill not DEEM anything they pass as passed by the house?

No, where are you getting such information. Whatever it decides still goes to full vote before both bodies of Congress. The only thing they can't do is amend it's decisions or filibuster it. If Congress doesn't like what the super committee decides they can just vote against it. If what they put forward fails, the automatic spending cuts go into effect.

Do you not think for 1 minute this Special Committee will not be given broader authority and powers in the very near future?

No. This sounds like black helicopter stuff. This committee is empowered to do one thing. It hashes out a spending cut program and Congress can simply vote against what it proposes. If they do, the rest of the spending cuts in the bill simply go into effect.

You might repeat it but it is a lie. To claim this is the most conservative congress is pure bullshit. They just voted the largest budget increase in the history of COngress.

I agree with you.

Unless we're going to call for a full revolution and start shooting, we conservatives need to win more at the ballot box before we can make more substantial progress towards our goals.

We're on a good track in that direction and the next election will be critical to picking up steam. The next important steps are the primaries, especially presidential.

No to Romney is the next big milestone, IMO.

I held my nose and voted for mccain. What do you suggest when there is only a rino or a lib on the ticket? I will never vote for another rino. Having rinos in charge is no different from having libs in charge. Well, there is one difference. You EXPECT to be treated like crap from a lib.
