It's a slow process, especially since the GOP has NEVER been entirely conservative. It's impossible to 'fail' in something that's never actually happened before. 2010 is as close as we've come to making the Republican party a more conservative party. (Reagan was a conservative, but did very little to move the entire party to the right).
We are now moving in the right direction. We are changing the conversation. We are having a profound effect on politics as usual in DC.
We just need to keep up the pressure.

I think it highlights this 'deal' as one that good conservatives can disagree over. To me, it is battle tactics and strategy in an early and significant fight within a larger war. I just saw some articles that say there is a 'tax hike' hidden in the bill. If so, all bets are off. If so, it really is a crap sandwich.
However, if it includes only spending cuts (even if miniscule in comparison to what they should be), sets up a process for additional more meaningful cuts later, avoids an economic crisis relating to technical default (a case in which perception HAS become reality) and does not allow the sycophant in-the-tank-liberals in the media to label the Tea Party movement as 'economic terrorists' to the mushy middle of voters in 2012, it is incremental gain that IMHO helps the odds of defeating the commie RATS in 2012. Either way, it is "nothing to celebrate".
