Annihilating Democracy with the Tea Party
SPIEGEL ONLINE ^ | 07/29/2011 | Gregor Peter Schmitz

Posted on 07/31/2011 6:55:26 AM PDT by skimbell

America's Founding Fathers thought of everything. They wanted to establish several centers of power in Washington rather than just one. They wanted the occupant of the White House to be strong, but Congress was to have the power to check that strength. The friction between Capitol Hill and the White House -- a product of this system of checks and balances -- was to make the decisions of America's leaders cleverer, wiser and better...

"But the system only works when all branches of government play the role designed for them..."

I wonder how Herr Schmitz explains 0's "I won" reasoning for his power grab, in terms of the working together that he (Schmitz) claims is "essential" to the correct functioning of American government?

Love the pic though...

‘Bout time we did something about this “democracy” crap.
We’re supposed to be a Republic!

Drop dead, Spiegel. You have no standing, nor moral stance qualification others. I’m a Kraut, and I thank God my ancestors left Germany over 145 years ago.

Uh huh. Getting lectured on Democracy by a bunch of German Socialists, with half the country nostalgic for the good old days of the DGR and the Stasi.

Yes, this “Democracy” needs to be razed to the ground and replaced with a CONSTITUTIONAL Republic.

The author is an idiot.

The Tea Party is trying to reduce spending.

The most certain way to end our form of government is to spend to the point that taxation enslaves the people.

The Tea Party intends to prevent that.

Maybe the author should have thought about the 17th Amendment and direct election of Senators before he put pen to paper. Democracy was the last thing the founders wanted. The Electoral College is next on the chopping block. After that, it will be back to the now emasculated Senate, and to somehow do away with the silly and unfair notion that each state is allotted two Senators.

Spiegel is both correct and wrong.

Yes, our Founding fathers wanted to establish several centers of power - they were called States.

No, our Found fathers did not want to centralize power in one location.

If you take a close look at Washington DC circa 1790 it was not a good place to establish a national capitol. The weather in summer was miserable. Add to this the diseases common to 18th century swamps and Washington DC was a comfortable environment for only six months. Until the advent of air conditioning DC had two distinct life styles. One was when Congress wasn't in session (a small Southern town) and one when Congress was in session (a major Northern city).

Hmmm.

Perhaps we can ban air conditioned government buildings inside the beltway as a way of reducing the over bearing federal Government?/s/

Lachen laut! Das ist Deutsche fur "laughing out loud".

That's just what the world needs. Another Germany style "democracy". Say, Herr Scheisse, what is The Fatherland's unemployment rate these days?

What is the last great invention to come out of Deutschland since Gummi Bears?

He’s almost right for the wrong reason. The Founding Fathers wanted several centers of power, but Washington DC wasn’t one of them.

I think Rubio’s little speech on the Senater floor, where he quoted “Radical” debt ceiling sound bites from none other than Reid, Obama, and Biden, and promptly read to the Senate their words on debt ceiling raises 4 years ago as exactly what the Tea party was saying today.....sort of put to rest the propaganda pouring forth from the Media types.

Democrats are not smarter than 5th graders.

Annihilating Democracy with the Tea Party

Annihilate away.

The only "democracy" I could appreciate is one where only the private sector taxpayers can vote.

Somehow these inbred morons don’t seem to mind when a million people show up in the streets and protest a war—all running clearly against democracy.

I’ll further note it has been the Tea Party crafting legislation. This “Schmitz” cat wants the Tea Party to collaborate with the other side and to play its part when the “other side” is too busy doing nothing, having crafted zero legislation as the Titanic approaches the iceberg.

We have a debt ceiling for a reason. It’s supposed to function as a cut-off valve, the end of the road, something not to be passed.
