Its amazing what the new centurians (newly-elected conservatives) can accomplish if they stick together.

The GOP had best learn to play hard ball with the members it has now, because I don’t see them getting too many more.

TEA party yes...GOP not so much.

What’s the big deal about the House passing this. The buffoons in the Senate said they aren’t going to pass it and the Kenyan said he’d veto it. This is nothing but an exercise in stupid.

God Bless them! This is about saving our Constitutional Republic from a bunch of commie thugs and it is time to put it all on the line.

Let the record show that OBAMA and his socialist minions trashed what real Americans want and need for their country. And there is no doubt.

All a balanced budget amendment does is makes you have a balanced plan. But that plan can include as much borrowing as you like. And that plan can include overly rosy projections on everything.

It doesn’t make you live within in your means. And what’s the penalty if congress doesn’t reach an agreement on a balanced budget?

No wonder Reid and Chuckie just now came front and center.

Does anyone seriously believe that there are 290 votes in the House for a BBA (never mind 67 in the Senate)?

Besides, a BBA is a waste of time. Any BBA which could pass Congress will have enough loopholes to make it meaningless.

The States need to amend the Constitution to extend the gold and silver clause in Article I section 10 to the Federal government, and a balanced budget will be the result.

I agree...

I still believe this will fail in the Senate...More so with this amendment to the bill...

I had heard there was a convention of agreement in the GOP circles up there that the BBA was going to be presented as a stand alone bill...

I think they are reaching, but at least we’ll better know what the outcome is going to be, and that has got to pizz the WH off to no end...

They’ll (dems and the WH) can’t really manipulate the demise of the BBS without getting egg on their faces...I think even the stupid people voting base they have won’t like that part of the deal...

All in all it is coming to a head, and this pimple is going to pop, and it ain’t going to be pretty...

Just my opinion...

Since we know the Liberals will not even discuss any Boehner plan, why not use the opportunity to present a consolidated position?

Should have done this right from the start.

This is another stupid trick.

We’ll get a much larger debt limit, moved out of the way for Obama’s reelection campaign, more taxes, more spending.

Any budget cut will be promised for some other Congress to ignore, and a “balanced budget amendment” to be put off for endless House votes and eventually, years from now, ratification by the States. In terms of the current spending problem, “never”.

A statutory budget cut- passed as a bill by Congress- will happen. Promising to make some future annual budget lower carries no legal weight and as we have seen over the last 40 or so years won’t ever happen.

This time if the House passes it they need to leave town immediately. Make the Senate Rats deal with it, without compromise.
Boehner still has the power to sell us out and I believe he will try.

Isn't this wonderful? Something needed will be put in this bill. Send it to the Senate! Let Dingy Harry and McLame continue to wave their flag, and tell Americans and the House the Senate has decided to table ... balancing the budget. Battle Royal, On. Let us hear from these lame excuses for journalists in the media, and back Dingy.

It’s a scam.

It’s nothing but meaningless political cover for Republicans for the next election, nothing else.

Watch the bottom line, which is how much, if any, they raise the debt ceiling. Nothing else is worth a bucket of warm spit.

To heck with the "balanced budget amendment" - I want the Thomas Jefferson Amendment:

"I wish it were possible to obtain a single amendment to our Constitution ... taking from the federal government their power of borrowing."

-- Thomas Jefferson (Letter of November 26th, 1798)

Purely symbolic, but they should just pass something and get on with it. We look like idiots enough as it is, and Bambi and the Dems are already jeering and saying they’ll just have to “move on” without a bill from the House.

And if you think they can’t do it, you don’t know how much Obama hates our constitutional procedures. And how easy it is for him to ignore them, because he’s never held accountable. He has wanted to issue his own “proclamation” on this anyway, and the House’s inability to produce a bill has given him perfect cover.
