House Republicans will link passage of a balanced-budget amendment to Speaker John Boehners (R-Ohio) last-ditch debt-ceiling plan, which GOP lawmakers said would move the measure to passage in a high-stakes vote later on Friday.
Republican lawmakers voiced confidence the enhanced bill would pass muster with conservatives, as Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) predicted the balanced-budget amendment change would bring 10 to 20 more GOP members on board.

The GOP had best learn to play hard ball with the members it has now, because I don’t see them getting too many more.
TEA party yes...GOP not so much.
What’s the big deal about the House passing this. The buffoons in the Senate said they aren’t going to pass it and the Kenyan said he’d veto it. This is nothing but an exercise in stupid.
bump.
God Bless them! This is about saving our Constitutional Republic from a bunch of commie thugs and it is time to put it all on the line.
Let the record show that OBAMA and his socialist minions trashed what real Americans want and need for their country. And there is no doubt.
All a balanced budget amendment does is makes you have a balanced plan. But that plan can include as much borrowing as you like. And that plan can include overly rosy projections on everything.
It doesn’t make you live within in your means. And what’s the penalty if congress doesn’t reach an agreement on a balanced budget?
No wonder Reid and Chuckie just now came front and center.
Besides, a BBA is a waste of time. Any BBA which could pass Congress will have enough loopholes to make it meaningless.
The States need to amend the Constitution to extend the gold and silver clause in Article I section 10 to the Federal government, and a balanced budget will be the result.

Sort of.
You have to hit the ball into the other court and the opponent bears responsibility for what they do with it. At least this one has some good top-spin.
Hot damn. Now pass it.
then THEY own it. Not us. They don’t WANT to own it. Screw them.
I agree...
I still believe this will fail in the Senate...More so with this amendment to the bill...
I had heard there was a convention of agreement in the GOP circles up there that the BBA was going to be presented as a stand alone bill...
I think they are reaching, but at least we’ll better know what the outcome is going to be, and that has got to pizz the WH off to no end...
They’ll (dems and the WH) can’t really manipulate the demise of the BBS without getting egg on their faces...I think even the stupid people voting base they have won’t like that part of the deal...
All in all it is coming to a head, and this pimple is going to pop, and it ain’t going to be pretty...
Just my opinion...
Since we know the Liberals will not even discuss any Boehner plan, why not use the opportunity to present a consolidated position?
Should have done this right from the start.
No. As Reagan proved, symbolism is important.
This is another stupid trick.
We’ll get a much larger debt limit, moved out of the way for Obama’s reelection campaign, more taxes, more spending.
Any budget cut will be promised for some other Congress to ignore, and a “balanced budget amendment” to be put off for endless House votes and eventually, years from now, ratification by the States. In terms of the current spending problem, “never”.
A statutory budget cut- passed as a bill by Congress- will happen. Promising to make some future annual budget lower carries no legal weight and as we have seen over the last 40 or so years won’t ever happen.
"Let's roll."
Republicans keep compromising-- and for what?? "no good deed" and all that.
Naturally the Kenyan will veto it - - the whole purpose of the Balanced Budget Amendment is to rein in and stop people like Ubama and his ilk. The important thing is that he actually be forced to veto it for the whole nation to see. And that's after the Senate rats have to go on record. See, Reid and his scumbags don't even want to have to vote on a Balanced Budget Amendment. They need to be forced to do so.
