A day after the House postponed its vote on Speaker John Boehner's Budget Control Act, Washington remains at a stalemate. Follow our live blog below for the latest developments.

And they’ve been the “Pee” party - they’ve been peeing all over us since 2006 and especially since 2008.
Or they have been the “Pea Party”, shoving their spening “Peas” down the country’s throat for the last two years. Like that lady’s sign said yesterday...Eat your own damn peas.
I’ll take my Tea hot and unsweetened, thank you.!!!
Why don’t republicans ever fight back? Why isn’t it repeated over and over that the democrats have never prepared a budget of their own? Even when they fully controlled the government.
Why isn’t it said that the democrats never raised the debt limit when they totally controlled the government...Dec/2010.
Why isn’t it brought up that Sasha and Mahlia get their homework done before it’s due, but their father and Harry Reid hasn’t got the same message? I pray the republicans stick with the balanced budget ammendment. And will they please respond about the threats to veterans and seniors not getting their monthly checks. Watching weak politicians is so damn frustrating.
We have a Bingo!
Dow down 105 as of now. Yes, not a true panic, yet. :)
Ditto.
And Bambi will do it."
I don't think so. The first rule of dictators is to pay the military. Don't pay the military can lead to Seven Days in May scenarios.
I bet we could reduce government by 99 percent and still get along just fine.
What a crock! It's the socialist democRATs (obamacare, et al), STUPID!
Don’t you know that “bipartisanship” means “democrats get their way”, right?
BTW love your name!
Excellent.
Remember those stories when Iceland’s financial system collapsed? It was a fishing economy once. Then it got into all this monetary mess, and after it detonated they were quoting one failed Icelandic banker as saying something like: “Well, I guess I’ll go back to fishing.”
I am starting to think that this whole world of banking/high finance since the beginning of human civilization is an exercise in self-delusion.
Better to be a farmer or a fisherman.
10 Elements of Comprehensive Budget Process Reform
Ending baseline budgeting. Baseline budgeting keeps entitlement spending on autopilot and creates the false impression that anything less than a large, previously assumed spending increase is a "cut." That is a recipe for rapidly accelerating spending.
We never learn.
Revamped House bill requires BBA to be sent to states for second debt ceiling increase. Sources in the room tell me they have the votes. 10 minutes ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®
Dow down 43 now. NASDAQ up slightly.
Yeah, right. Let's see the fine print.
Good news. Looks like Boehner bill will now include BBA. Now it cuts, it caps, it balances. If so, I'm for it. 13 minutes ago via web
Guess we'd better surrender now.
I have no doubt that Obama's "Free S**t Army" will continue to get paid. Whether or not Sgt. Mr. niteowl77 Jr. or his fellow servicemen will get their checks is another matter.
Mr. niteowl77
I agree with your opinion. Mine too. Why don’t republicans get the message out to the people (before him) if reasonable negotiations are tabled...ie that he must want a manufactured crisis. The left is totally out maneuvering us. Very frustrating.
“Wall St. isn’t panicking.” Apparently, Geithner called a Wall St. senior bank meeting this morning to let them know that any sell-off would be a no-no. So those on the call, in the room (not unavailable at their homes in the Hamptons and Nantucket etc.) have been advised to do some buying, at least enough to keep the slide from becoming an avalanche until 8/3’s open. IMO, they will not disappoint as little Timmy has saved their butts more than once.
