Our Admiral Ackbar Moment — It Is A Trap (Even Rush Limbaugh saying it right now)

As you wake up, here is what you need to know.

John Boehner thinks he has the votes to pass his third plan out of the House. Work to make sure he does not by going to http://www.redstate.com/action and calling your member of Congress. Tell them to oppose Boehner’s plan.

Even if you are sympathetic to Boehner’s plan, here is why it must be killed — it is a trap.

Pay attention please.

Harry Reid and all the Senate Democrats have sent John Boehner a letter saying they will oppose his plan in the Senate. In other words, Boehner’s plan, given the GOP votes in the Senate pledged to vote against it, will get less votes in both the House and in the Senate than Cut, Cap, and Balance.

Here, though, is why it is important to kill John Boehner’s plan this very morning before today’s vote.

John Boehner’s plan will get to the Senate. Harry Reid’s plan isn’t even in final form and has not even started making its way through the Senate’s arcane processes. It is a trap.

Harry Reid will amend John Boehner’s plan and include parts of Reid’s own plan that make tax increases even more likely than Boehner’s already does.

Senate Democrats last night were beginning to talk about adding the Gang of Six’s very bad plan to it as well — a trigger that would be engaged should the Democrats then refuse to reform entitlements, i.e. a trigger the Democrats will gladly engage because the Gang of Six plan raises taxes, including getting rid of the employer credit for active duty military reservists and raising the capital gains tax from 15% to 28%.

Then the Senate Democrats will send John Boehner back his own plan and dare John Boehner to kill his very own proposal. Should he try, the GOP will look as hardline and unwilling to compromise as John Boehner’s acolytes have been accusing conservatives of being this week.

In other words, John Boehner, once he sends his plan to the Senate, will yet again get played and the GOP will be forced to either accept Harry Reid’s awful changes or be blamed for causing the nation’s default — the very thing the GOP has sought to avoid.

Oh, and should the GOP fold and pass the modified Boehner plan, they’ll still get blamed for us losing our credit rating. Even with Boehner’s revisions, the Congressional Budget Office says the plan doesn’t cut even $1 trillion. It doesn’t meet S&P’s requirements.

Well done, Republicans.

The only thing we can do is call our congressmen and prevent them from voting for this suicide pact. Go here now.

"Oh PLEASE!! If the Senate adds TAX INCREASES and all the other horsebleep you claim then it WILL NO LONGER BE BOEHNERS PLAN, will it?"

Yeah, so it doesn't matter WHAT the House sends up, the same thing could happen. And, you're right 101voodoo, if that happens, IT WILL NO LONGER BE BOEHNER'S PLAN!

This whole process is a trap for the TEA Party freshmen.

If they refuse to raise the debt ceiling, they will be blamed by Rats & the MSM for the instant gov’t downsizing.

If they raise the debt ceiling w/o substantial cuts, they will be voted out of office by their PO'ed constituents.

If they are to be blamed regardless, they might as well be blamed for doing the right thing - cap the spending at the current debt ceiling & refuse to increase it w/o substantial cuts beginning immediately with the repeal of Obamacare, a known budget buster. Tell the Rats the House will not be producing any more debt ceiling proposals - it's a waste of time.

I suspect many conservative voters - the voters who elected the TEA Party freshmen to Congress, understand that the debt ceiling is the ONLY legal restraint on the out of control spending. These freshmen are far more likely to lose their job by voting WITH Boehner than against him.

You have an excellent analysis.

I don’t know if Mccain really said that about the Hobbitts or if something got lost in the translation..but Tea Party is taking a beating by the Establishment.

They are about to take a beating from the public once they public sees this was once against just BS.

I don’t think enough of the general public know that no current congress can bind a future congress. I have seen a lot of people on this site not understand that.

I hope the election in 2012 makes that point and the cuts must happen now.

“While it probably is a trap - the jaws won’t close unless the House decides to step in it. If the Senate changes it, it has to go back to the House.’

Of course.

The Republicans have the political high ground. Boehner has performing well in the war of dueling news conferences. Lots of people who used to be oblivious to Washington shenanigans are now getting a close look at Obama, Pelosi and Reid and are becoming disgusted.

The Boehner bill (bipartisan input) was a compromise from cut, cap and balance, and the democrats turned their noses up at both, so they can’t claim the republicans haven’t tried to negotiate.

Now it’s time to “take it to the American people”.

Let’s see if they’re stupid enough to accept Reid’s amendments before we bring out the firing squad.

It's not a "trap" at all..........the whole thing is a done deal, as it always has been, and NO reduction in size of Government, no cuts to continued corporate and minority welfare, AND, we will ALL pay the price if taxes are increased, in continued rise in cost of goods and services (where the "tax the rich" impact is ALWAYS felt: on the back of consumers).

Likewise, NO elimination of the Czars, Federal regualatory beauracracy, or Union-dominated government).

It's a SELL OUT, already in the plans, and business-as-usual for the "2 Party" system, which is nothing more than dual-lettered Parties, both hell-bent on filling their's and their friend's pockets on the backs of The People.

Did you check out the post just above yours?

It’s a good example of why I worry for our future.

On the other hand, I realize that it only takes a few cicadas to make a whole lot of racket. And they are not good for much else.

“If Boehner can pass ANYTHING which cuts any spending and limits the debt ceiling increase to LESS then the spending cuts it is a win and a starting place.”

Why does Boehner’s plan do this? Please tell me since Courts have made it crystal clear that he can’t.

Somehow, the right just can’t accept that having a majority in ONE house of a bicameral legislature, with no executive power, does not give control — or, in this case, even much influence.

I don't know where you've been, but the entire kerfuffle is about the fact that the republicans DO control whether the debt ceiling is raised or not. They control the purse strings. They are in a position of great influence and power. The only reason it is not being used is because of their weak, effete, Republican elite "leaders".

Who, it should be mentioned repeatedly, have supported raising the debt ceiling from day one.

I disagree completely.

Pubs have a majority in the House. They can block any debt increase indefinitely. If the Rats don't want to cut spending, the debt ceiling will.

Furthermore, most Pubs in the House can do this w/o fear of losing in 2012. They were elected specifically to cut spending & taxes, not to make bad deals with Rats & RINOs to continue the insanity.

And so what would you have the House do? Nothing?

Because ANYTHING they pass is going to get the treatment you outlined.

Somehow, the right just can’t accept that having a majority in ONE house of a bicameral legislature, with no executive power, does not give control — or, in this case, even much influence.

We have no muscle until November, 2012 — and that only if we can stick together and quit tearing each other apart.

If it makes no difference - then put forth CCB. If our influence means nothing, then they should by golly - DO NOTHING

If Boehner can pass ANYTHING which cuts any spending and limits the debt ceiling increase to LESS then the spending cuts it is a win and a starting place.

Boehner has never even proposed such a bill. What he has proposed is that we increase the deficit by trillions with a promise that the Democrats will reduce the rate of increase in the deficit sometime in the future. You would have to be a complete fool, or in cahoots with the Democrats to accept this.

If Boehner proposed increases in the debt limit that matched actual cuts in spending, calculated every year, conservatives would support him. You want the debt limit raised 300 billion for 2012, cut spending 300 billion for 2012. If you want an additional increase in the debt limit of 500 billion for 2013, first you would have to cut spending in 2013 by 500 billion. This is what matching debt limit increases with cuts in spending means. What the crybaby has proposed is 6 billion in cuts and trillions in additional deficit spending. He is as conservative as Reid and Pelosi, that's why their proposals are similar. He's a disgrace!
